Clutch and transmission help!

Hello fellow Evo drivers out there, I need some help! Just got my car out of the Mitsubishi dealer because of what I found out to be clutch slippage and a bad 5th gear synchronizer. All and all Mitsubishi wants to charge a little more than $2900 to replace the clutch, machine the flywheel and replace the synchronizer. I know its roughly half price for labor and half price for the parts, but if I am going to be spending that kind of $$, I might prefer to go aftermarket for the clutch.

I drive A LOT for work now and its all road driving in the city and highway. I've never been to the track although its not out of the possibilities. Only aftermarket power adder is a Busher racing air intake, everything else is stock on the engine. Only power adder i might add down the road is a turbo back exhaust.

I need advice from some of you hardcore Evo enthusiasts out there. If i decide to go aftermarket, which clutch and/or flywheel should i get for roadway applications? I've looked around and know i don't really need a stage 2 or 3 clutch, something more basic than racing applications. I don't mind spending $$ for something good, just don't want to overpay for something I don't need. Please feel free to message me or just post on this thread. I am not sure how much more time my stock clutch has!

Thank you in advance for any insight you all can provide as I know nothing about transmissions!

Really depends on your mod path. How much horse power you want to make and what kind of mods you will go with. For what you have now you can go with an ACT HDSS. I run that clutch and i daily drive my car. but I don't track it. Have swapped my trans before (6sp) Um no thanks to doing it again. Also you can look into another shop doing the work. I just never have good luck at the dealer.

Good luck and again really depends on what you want to do with your car..

It sounds like you don't plan on running much power so the stock clutch would work just fine for you. but if you wanted to upgrade i also would recommend the act hdss. the clutch peddle is only slightly more stiff than stock but can handle power. i went with the Exedy stage 1 organic clutch and it is a very good clutch, but, it is really grabby and not fun to daily drive with. now, as far as flywheel, just resurface the stock one and use that. there's nothing wrong with it and since ur car is just a daily driver its a better ride. im at 390whp and have the stock flywheel so you don't need to worry about it holding.

Also, something else to consider. depending on the mileage, if you are already going to be taking out the tranny to fix it you may want to have the ring and pinon looked at on the transfer case. im sure you have heard of the evo "death wine" and it would be a shame to have problems with the t-case after you just did the connecting part

Oh man! you are in luck! just looked at where you live and you are in the perfect state for you're problem. just take you're car to Sheppard, don't go to the stealership, go to shep!
Sheptrans.com They will treat you right! Good luck

I wouldn't go to the dealer to get it done, go to shep. He can easily do the clutch and synchro. Think buschur will do clutches too, not sure about synchro.

Tre ftw

TRE has the best value among the top Evo transmission guys and its not too far from Ohio. Jon and Eric are great at their craft and they will give you exactly what you are looking for. Give them a call/email just to get some advice and you will be amazed at how much they can teach you. You wont be disappointed.

just got my Trans and t/case rebuilt there - teamrip.com
