mysterious whine?!? please help, ive searched
Well im having this weird whine/humming sound and it obly happens when i give the car partial throttle and it immediately goes away once i let off the gas. Ive searched a lot but havent found anytging. It sounds like its coming from the rear of the car also. Maybe rear diff? I thought it was the t-case but everyone i talked to says that if it was the death whine i would hear it all the time no matter what. Please help me out.

I get it in 3rd, 4th and 5th. It gets a little louder at around 55-60mph. Also, it sort of bounces if that makes it any sense at all. Like if im accelerating and i let off the gass it sort of sounds like its bouncing as the car bucks a little back and forth. I really dont know how to explain that part too well.

Hey bro, I am at the same exact spot you are.. 60MPH in 5th gear decel crazy loud whine, partial throttle at 60 crazy whine.. 65 goes to nothing and 70 its gone.
I hear the normal whine in 1st and then I hear it again only at 60mph... I'm thinking axles check your CV Shaft boots or where your axle hooks to trans case and see if you are leaking or have torn boots.

I think my axle seals on my drivers side might be leaking but would that cause a whine? I just replaced the transfercase fluid 4 days ago and it didnt help the whine at all.
Hey m8.
This doesn't sound like a t-case to me. I won't even get started on how many people post anything that has to do with whining and people just respond with "tcase" without reading or thinking.
If it were your t-case, it would do it at any speed whether you were in neutral or in gear, and it would be LOUD. If it IS you t-case, theres nothing to do to "save it" so feel free to continue to drive for a bit and if it gets hella loud, and meets those symptoms, consider that.
I might suspect that its a wheel bearing, or tires? I know you're in Florida, so not sure... but as temps change, things can whine a bit more. Evos do NOT like cold mornings.
That "bouncing" noise you mention isn't really a familiar noise that I've heard.
Being speed dependent (like, not happening until you're above a certain speed) could mean that its tires or wheel bearings as well as those will typically only be loud enough at higher speeds.
See if the noise is still there in neutral?

^^^Thanks for the response....I'm not 100% satisfied that it is the tcase yet. Like I said, the noise goes away COMPLETELY when I let off of the gas. I think i might just go through process of elimination with smaller items like changing out the wheel bearings and I also think my front drivers side axle and seal needs replacing so I am going to try and see if that helps at all. I would like to resolve the problem at the lowest cost possible.

When you push the clutch in and go into neutral you are taking all of the load off of the transfer case... If it WAS the transfer case it'd go away right when the clutch is in. Mine IS continuous and changes pitches with speed, thus wheel bearings or axles.
