exhaust diameter advise needed
i looked on the forum but couldnt find anything specific on this. basically i am looking to do free up the exhaust a bit. its all stock now.
i am also planning on retaining stock catback section.
here are the 2 choices i am considering, the advise i need (aside for one to get full 3inch tbe) is whether one will flow better then the other/
1. keeping stock tbe except to replace the cat wich hf metal cat section thats 2.5 inches to fit nicely with stock pieces
2. 3 inch dp with 3 inch hfc section tapering nicly to 2.5 right before the cbe?
both options end up 2.5 and still have to deal with somewhat restrictive muffler but does one stand out as a better option over the other?

Number 2 is the better choice. Gases leave the engine hot. Heat causes pressure which means back pressure. As the exhaust gases travel down the piping, they cool. So changes close to the engine make the most HP.
My setup is a 3" dp and tp with a QTP cutout welded into the tp and the stock cat-back. I plan on buying a 2.5"-3" tapered pipe and 3" flange on eBay and weld that piece onto the end of the cat-back to help the flow. If it only weighed less would I be truly happy.
