loud knocking car died!! helpp

Ok so last week I went to the track, right after my last pass I heard a very faint rattling/knocking sound( like if something was lose). I popped the hood and at idle there was no really noticable sounds maybe a little extra loud ticking sound coming from the motor. So on my way home from the track I heard kept hearing the knocking noise when I went above alil 2,000 rpms and once I went off the throttle it would go away. It would do the same if I reved it at idle above 2k the noise would come. So I proceded to limp the car (over a hour away from home) in 5th gear alil below 2k the whole way. As I was driving the car home the knocking sound got worst and louder and was happening below 2k now. I stoped to get gas and shut the car off, when I went to restart it it was having trouble cranking and trying to start l like a slow crank for a extra second or two( I also realized that when coming to a stop engaging the clutch the car would just shut off as the rpm's dropped). I proceded back on the freeway and the noise was getting worst and louder also I could feel a lose of power and it just kept getting worst. I lost so much power the car literally wouldnt accelerate no more and when I went to hit the clutch to downshift the car just shut off and died. I pulled over to the shoulder and tried starting the car it would just crank and didnt start no more but it sounded like it wanted to for a sec. I know I caused more damage by driving it but like I said I was in another state over a hour away from home. I thought I had spun a rod bearing I just drained my oil and there was no metal shavings at alll no pieces of bearing etc. Took my timing cover off and the timing belt is very loose it has alot of play belt can come off with a screwdriver pulling it. piulled the spark plugs and they looked perfect took a light to take a look at the pistons and they appeared to look okay to. Im lost and dont know what to look for next. Anyone have any ideas what this could be?? If it was a spun rod bearing wouldnt there be metal shavings in my oil etcc thanks for the help in advance

sounds like a bearing to me.. cut the filter apart that you took off when you changed your oil, this will confirm if its a bearing or not. but it really sounds like the motor is going to have to come apart unfortunately

thats what im thinking but could it be a timing belt issue to the belt was fairly loose

You can also pull your spark plugs and check to see if anything came up and hit the piston...

maybe your timing belt slipped and it got far enough out of timing that it wont run now. did you check to see if it was in time?

Yea I would have guessed rod or main bearing as well, but his belt could have jumped enough time to make the pistons hit the valves?

I would probably lean more on that it Jumped time and the piston hit some valves.. though cant explain the gold flakes.

You will see more when you drop the oil pan...

I just went thru this last year... You have spun a bearing, if memory serves me right, it will be cylinder 4. Drop the oil pan and check. Did your oil light come on, mine did in its final moments..

i would go with a rod bearing on that picture......is there any copper colour filings??

But either way metal in the filter normally points towards something bad.
