2.3 build questions

So I was planning on doing a 4G64 based build, but I managed to get a killer deal on an Evo 8 block with stock bore and a fresh hone! Also, managed to get an OEM Mitsu 100mm crankshaft that's supposed to be minty fresh. I guess that means I'm going 2.3 stroker! Here's my questions: firstly, I'm planning to buy these pistons : http://www.amsperformance.com/cart/J...r-Pistons.html, and the inexpensive Manley stock length rods. I'm thinking about saving a little extra for I beams, but since I'm only gonna be using an OEM Mitsu crank, will buying the nicer rods be worth it or is the crank the weak point even with the Manley rods? Second, will the 2.3 be able to start and drive with the stock tune? Since this is going in a Mirage based build I'll be using an Evo 5 ECU and I have an Openport 2.0 cable on the way so I can tune it a little myself, I just need to know if the car will at least be able to start. ( Evo head will be rebuilt stock with only Kiggly valve springs and retainers and an HLA regulator and fresh valve seals so that shouldn't affect anything) Lastly, (and I know I probably shouldn't be asking this here ) how much power do you guys think this setup will be able to make? I'm shooting for 500hp at the wheels. Thanks for the input! Also, if anyone has any suggestions I'm open to changing my build plans at this point so feel free to chime in!

I would go with the I beams so you wouldnt have to worrie about your rods. As far as the crank goes it will be fine no weak points there. I have a 2.3 with eagle H beams and are now changing them out to manley TT rods.

Save up for the rods, the cranks are stout. Plenty of people using the stock 100mm crank on big power builds.

Sounds good, I'll have to shop around for some good ones then. What about the pistons being aluminum though? Or if I go with aluminum rods? Will they hold up in a street motor ok? I've heard that steel is the best for the street. I'd like to see 60k miles minimum out of this build so nothing to compromise that if possible.

If it is going to be a daily driver that is not going to be raced all the time, then stick with steel rods.

It will be daily driven with occasional track use and it will see a whole lot of spirited driving as well. (IE: Tail of the Dragon) Will the aluminum pistons be alright?

Ok ALL pistons are aluminum , just different grades of material. The srp pistons are an economical piston, not weak but not the strongest either. Just remember when pistons , rods are rated for 650hp, thats at the crank not the wheels.

Oh, really? Didn't know that! Fail. Well, I'd be the first to admit internals aren't my forte, I know more about suspension and brakes. I did know about the rating being for power at the crank though. Well, like I said; I'm not sure what piston/rod combo I'm going with yet. If anyone has a suggestion, feel free to chime in. I'd love to see 700hp at the wheels someday
haha but gotta do what I can afford. Might just get the SRP pistons and the cheap Manley rods for now.

Just wait a little bit longer before you build the motor then, cuase it will be a lot more expensive to have it rebuilt stonger in the future, especially if it granades.

Hmm, well what about these rods: http://www.maperformance.com/maperfo...-5900mit7.html

They're pretty heavy duty and they're steel so they should hold up well in a street engine, but what about requiring 6 bolt rod bearings? I've heard they're better since they have more surface area, but will they work with my OEM Mitsu 100mm crank? What are the limitations/requirements for running these? If they'll work alright then I might pick them up in a few weeks. Then I'll just have to decide on the pistons.

I don't like the more surface area thing, u will create more friction area with that.
I love the 7 bolt bearings cuz they're narrow, and help to spin the crank freely.

Hmm, well it's down to the Howards or the Crowers... Crowers use a 7bolt/Evo style rod bearing so that should be straight forward to install. Man they're pricey though!

Well, I think I'll be going with these pistons then.

Will they work with the Howards rods though? I'm unsure since the Howards are for 6bolt engines. Is there a difference?
