evo 9 engine failures please help

Hey
I need some help I got my evo 9 about a year ago and I go to the track
every weekend well the problem is I had a spark plug failure it got
broken and I didn’t have a lot of experience about the engine
(detonation) so one of my pistons broke and the sleeve got scratched
a little bit and my mechanic machined the the sleeve and got a new
piston and fixed it up and after changing the oil I went to track and
the engine broke again! in sum the engine broke 4 times till now and i didn't push the car too hard!!!
I’m sick and tired of it so I’m thinking of buying an aftermarket short
or long block cause the last time my engine broke down the pistons,
connecting rod, block and crank shaft were broken and I’m looking for
something really reliable let me tell you what I have in mind I want an
engine that could withstand more than 600hp and only give it 350-400
hp how reliable would that be? And get a bigger oil pan and bigger oil
cooler because the last time I went to the track the car only could do
2laps and oil temperature would go to 130c! the weather is about 28-
38c from where I live I wanna do more than 20laps without any engine
failures cause I’m thinking of participating in a race next season I
need the most reliable setup please help me out!
When i told my mechanic that I'm thinking of an aftermarket short block he told u can’t put it on your oem cylinder head it’s better to get a long block what do think?
Please help me out this is the situation I want to know everything witch parts and what to do?

First of all I would recommend you to do some searching. This subject has bean beaten to death, revived, then beaten to death again. Second, I would find a different mechanic becuase he is obviously not familiar with the 4G63/EVO platform if he says that the cylinder head would not fit on a different block.

Also, it would help to tell us what kind of racing. I see that you used the word "laps" so is that road racing, autox, or...

If your cylinder head is not damaged and is withing spec then you should not have any issues.

Ok then what do u mean within spec if I get a short block 2.0 that could stand about 600hp and put my OEM cylinder head on it would it be ok? Is the OEM cylinder head within spec or do I need to get an aftermarket one?

It is something that your engine builder/machine shop can measure for you. If they say they can't, find a different shop because that just means they don't know 4G63 engines. You don't want to spend a bunch of money on a shop to do something, only to have it blow up due to thier mistakes.

First of all, your engine is detonating and breaking off spark plugs. So your tune obviously is not good. Then on top of that your engine does not have "sleeves", its a solid block other than the coolant and oil passages. Lastly for a mechanic to bore and hone one cylinder and put a different size and weight piston is ridiculous and its no wonder your motor is falling apart. I am sure its imbalance is the least of your problems. Get a real tuner to program the car and get a real mechanic to swap in a stock motor from a wrecked car. These engines take 600hp or so with PROPER tuning, which is not what you have.

you can never really fully clean an oil cooler. that is the reason you are have frequent failures.

You need to RUN away from that mechanic. It is obvious he doesnt know what hes talking about and does bad work. Run away, fast.

You will most likely kill more engines if you keep using that contaminated cooler.
