Cracked Hotside? Am I Screwed?

I bought a IX turbo off a member here. I didn't have him take it apart to check the hotside for cracks. Because it only had @ 20K miles I thought it would be ok. I took it apart today and this is what I found:

I was going to use it for awhile and then upgrade to a FP Red or BBK Full sending in my IX, if they still do that. Is there any down side to this besides not being able to upgrade it at FP?

I'm no expert (far from it actually), but having hot exhaust vent (at any rate) into the engine bay is far from ideal. The 4G63 gets hot enough as it is. Also having an exhaust leak will likely skew figures attained from your oxygen sensors, as well as slowing your spool. My guess it will run really rich. Like I said I'm no expert but I would stay well clear of driving an EVO with a crack in the hotside.

It may still prove to be serviceable as a stop for your garden gate, to keep the rabbits out of the vegetable patch. However, I would not run it on my turbo.

We've had people run them with the stock turbine wheel without issue, but I'm afraid it will not be able to be upgraded. We've got some brand new OEM housings in stock if you're interested, and we offer upgrades too

I don't think it'll vent into the engine bay. It's still contained in the hotside, it's internal, if that makes sense.

Thanks Chris for chiming in! I'm also thinking of the EF3. I just thought this would be a good alternative until I had the funds. PM me the cost of a new OEM hotside housing please kind sir.

As said above, it's internal within the housing, not leaking into the engine pay. It's the wall between the two sections of the housing that give you the twin scroll effect.

Does this have any affect on performance? Anyone with data or theories on this?

The seller sent me a partial refund in good faith. He really is a stand up guy and I appreciate his efforts.

Now moving forward looking for a great 10.5 hot side without any cracks, bad threads, etc. I can get a new one for a lot of $$$, but used would be nice right now.
