With the 2.2 liter they are no longer running the stock short block (what the poll is about) but that is still a damn nice car!

Even DSM's run a forged crank from the factory, just not forged rods. I don't think they'd put cast cranks in the Evo VIII's after putting forged ones in the DSM's for all these years.

Considering I've seen DSM's run 500+ hp at the flywheel on stock internals, I'd put the Evo over 600 hp at the flywheel before stuff starts breaking. Maybe even more.

Thanks for the correction. Forged is a real confidence builder. 600 hp from a stock 2L lump is quite impressive. Perhaps as you suggest the earlier E5 - E6 engines used cast rods.

If someone can point me to an authoritative source to corroborate this I would appreciate the info.

If your poll said which motor supports the most HP/L in stock form, it'd be the 4G63 hands down, but considering the EJ257's displacement advantage, the maximum net horsepower is close. The 4G63 still wins in my book, but I think after another year or two in development of EJ257 parts and after the learning curve for this new motor progresses more, the opposite will be true.

Mitsu block= Made of iron
Subi block= Made of aluminum

The mitsu's iron block is way stronger than suby's aluminum open deck design. Suby's block is very similar to a honda aluminum block. I have a fully built turbo honda crx si with a sleeved iron b18c1 gsr block. There is no way it last long(15+psi's) without iron sleeves. It can be prone to cracking the cylinder walls due to the coolant jackets and aluminum design. Its very popular for the honda crowd to install iron sleeves or at least a cylinder brace in these coolant jackets just to keep the cylinder walls from walking. With this sleeve installed 40+psi is no problem!!!

EJ207 baby!!!!!!!!! oh wait, you said EJ257......oh, ok then.

EJ257. j/k

Like someone else said, its too close to call in my book. People have put ~500whp on a stock 2.5 block. I dont follow the 4G63 "that" much, but Im sure its also up there. How long will either last @ that power level, dont know.

blah blah blah, the 4G63 is better............again.
