Alternative to Penn 20w50?

A local guy stopped carrying it and there are no other places immediately close to me that I can get Penn 20w50 from.

What would an equal substitute be?

See if there is an Amsoil dealer in your area, and get the Z-ROD 20-50

Another alternative is Valvoline VR1 20-50 (conventional or synthetic) can be purchased at almost any advanced, autozone, or oreily's. Has a high ZDDP package and it on FP Turbos recommended oils list...

VR1 is an excellent choice. No need for synthetic unless you're going to run the oil ultra hot (over 250F) or going for extended drain intervals.

Well VR1 or Amsoil itll be! On the VR1 conventional vs synthetic, is it recommended to do one or the other? I presume synthetic.

20w50 is what Buschur fills up the motor with after he finished my first build last year, so I stuck with it. I dont have any real reason for using 20w50 other than that.

I had a friend order me a case of VR1 20w50 conventional, it's not gonna be an issue filling with that with the Penn semi-synthetic having been in there right?

I would never put conventional in my built motor.

I use AMSOIL ARO 20W-50, with an AMSOIL filter. I spent the money on all the go fast parts, why cheap out on the oil?

Just go to http://www.amsoil.com/ sign up to become a preferred customer ($20 a year). You get great discounts on everything on their website.

I just order a case of 12 and 2 oil filters. Every oil change I use 6 qts, because of the AMS wet sump pan.

I'd definitely look into AMSOIL over conventional. Especially for our cars.

If you are running the car in the winter in NJ, don't use a 20-50 for the cold months. Try a 10-40.
