Questions about boost and boost controllers

I currently own a DSM, but I hope I get an EVO in the near
future. I was just wondering:

Is a boost controller for the EVO worth it? Doesn't the EVO
run 19psi stock? How much more boost do you guys run?

Also, is anyone running ****ty 91 octane California gas? If so,
when you up the boost, do you actually see any gains, or does
the ECU just pull your timing?

I know that for DSM's equipped with a 16G, which is what the
EVO comes with, the most we can run is around 17psi on the
street with 91octane. Any more than that, the ECU just pulls
the timing and the car is actually slower.

Plz help me Evolve.

The evo does run 19 psi stock, but it tapers down to around 16-17 by redline. Just holding the boost at 19 through redline will give you a bit more power. A boost controller will also help spool the turbo a little faster.

re: rebelzx

So the boost tapering towards redline is a result of bad boost
control, not the limits of the turbo?

How much boost do you run on the street in everyday driving?
What octane gas do you use?

Boost goes to 19 then tapers.

Getting a MBC or something like an ECU reflash (works, dynoflash, xflash, etc) will fix this.
