Wideband needed for my evo?
Wideband needed for my evo?
For most turbo cars, i know it's a good idea to run one. But i really don't want to spend the extra $100 to do so. Is it needed or highly recommended on a stock turbo? If i were to upgrade the turbo, then yes i'll do it. I am trying to run a boost gauge also and want to run it on top of the steering column with a shift light next to it. What boost gauge/shift light do you guys recommend that's not too expensive and easy to install? I bought this car yesterday and it was my first ever evo/turbo car that i am installing all these gauges. Thanks!
No its not needed, just like a/c isn't needed but its nice to have. If the car is tuned properly and you haven't dokr any mods to affect the tune since then you SHOULDNT need one but is a very good thing to have. If you are bone stock like ur sig says I wouldn't worry about it. I would go with an autometer gauge and shouldnt install it in the fuel pressure regulator cuz if the line comes off you can run lean and do some damage
Needed no but IMO it is very important to have a wideband. It will give you a quick indicator if something goes wrong or is going to go wrong. It will also give you an idea if you need your AFRs adjusted. As far as which one to buy; if your gonna buy one, buy the right one. I have run the AEM EUGO in all my turbo cars. I heard Innovative makes a good one as well. An extra $100 now may save you $1000 later.

As far as boost gauges, it all depends on what you want I guess on that. If you want mechanical ones, Defi has good ones, but I've always used Autometer mechanical ones (specifically the cobalt series). If you wanted a digital one, the only one I've even messed with is the AEM TRUboost (which came on my car when I got it), and that has a boost controller with it. I don't mind my TRUboost, but I've heard that they can be off so I'm looking for a mechanical to run as well to see if mine is right.
I agree with what everyone is saying...it really isn't needed but having one right there is a nice little safety net...I have the innovate afr gauge...love it. For a boost gauge make sure it goes to like 40psi.

I agree completely with this. First thing I do with ALL my turbo'd cars is put an AEM UEGO in them. On turbo cars your AFR's are very important as lets say you have a slightly plugged injector or your fuel pump is starting to go or your WG gets stuck or something, once you see it running lean you can get off before it's too late.

Since your sig says Stock for now. Get a wideband, get a good one!
Get a boost guage, get a good one.
I hate seeing these threads on penny pinching for quaility instruments.
I have seen too many guys get evos, throw cheap crap in them and now cars are for sale because they broke down 10 times in the last two months.
OP: Please get good stuff. I use AEM, maybe its a little more expensive than something else, but it is proven.
Good Luck with the new car, enjoy.

. I am NOT cheap. Trust me. lol. Autometer and innovative are good gauge companies too. I just need to know how to run the hard vacuum line for the autometer cobalt boost gauge because that's what i am getting. And how does the wideband work?
Thanks! I am not getting "not" good stuff. I am looking for the good parts, and shopping around for the best deal

. As stated before, there are gromets that you can use on the firewall to pass your vacuum lines through. The guy that had the car before me did it a simpler way but kind of a stupid way too, but he ran the vacuum lines and wires through the fender to the door (drivers), and taped into the wire harness tube for the door wires and got it into the car that way. I don't like doing that but I haven't taken the time to run them the way I want them. I will once I get my triple gauge pod for the A pillar. Might as well when I've already got everything torn off the a pillar to replace my 2 gauge for the 3 gauge. Now as for the instructions on how to wire it up, it's actually really simple to wire up the boost gauge. + is your positive connection, - is your negative, and ILL is for your light for the back. Some people just connect the ILL and the + wires to the same and constantly run the light, but I like mine to turn on and off with my lights. It's really easy to do, just need to tap into the wire for something that runs with your headlights/parking lights, this way when either are turned on, you will turn your boost gauge light on as well. As far as the WB AFR gauge, there will be directions on how to hook that up. If not, there are directions on AEM's website for installing it in PDF. Really easy to follow too
