High Pitch Whine above 3k rpms
High Pitch Whine above 3k rpms
About a month ago the coupling from my licp to the turbo split and my icp came loose. I drove maybe 100 feet and parked it. Its been sitting for a month. I replaced the entire licp ( didnt like the other one, replaced with one from ETS). I took it for a test drive down the road and when I get over 3k rpms a loud whine comes from the engine bay. Could it be the belts because it sat or maybe the turbo? I know its hard to diagnose without hearing it but any ideas would help.
It continues for as long as I rev.
also 115k miles on motor and stock turbo. I never had an issue till now

is it just at 3k only? does it continue as the rpms go higher or what? need more details.
Put the car in neutral and rev it while under the hood.. see if you can localize it.
I was by myself so I couldnt rev it and look under hood.
I feel stupid to say but I dont remember if it did it while sitting still. As soon as the car warmed up I headed down the road.
The speed didnt matter just the rpms. So if I was going 20mph and went over 3k it whined. If I was going 50 at 2k rpms it didnt

You can rev the motor without having to press on the accelerator...the throttle cable is the one that goes across your valve cover. Follow it and you will see where it connects to the throttle linkage (*not sure of the word). The linkage is spring loaded so turn it to rev the cars motor...
Not the best wording.... sorry..

Well I revved the car in neutral and it didnt whine. So then I took it down the road and not only did the whine come back but I lost boost pressure. Im going to guess boost leak. It stopped building more than 5psi of boost.
Yep that will do it.. good old leak test or just check all the connections till you find it and you should be good.
No supercharger for me. I get enough whining when the kids are in the car. Maybe HIGH PITCHED whistle would be a better description than whine. Anyway I'm going to get ***** deep in it monday. I have to work all weekend, 12 hour days too, so it'll have to wait. Again, thanks for the responses.
