650cc injectors fyi

Just wanted to post an FYI...

I just installed the LancerShop's 650cc injectors they are selling for the EVO 8. Upon installing we realized they don't look the like the stock injectors. When we tried to install them we found out these do NOT fit. They have a flare at the bottom of the injector and will not seat properly. I had to grind the flare down to match the size of the stock injectors so it will fit right. Once that was done they fit just fine and I have had no problems. Car runs great with them. I just wanted people to know if they buy them, you will need to modify them to make them work.

Later.
John

I assume your running a piggyback or something similar? What changes did you have to make?

Yes running the Xede and had to take out lots of fuel. It was very rich. Leaned it out to 11:1 and tapers to 10.5:1 by redline. I am not sure how lean to go on this engine. I am using a LM1 wideband and runing the 91 oct map with 92oct gas.

Anyone have any comments on what generally is a good A/F ratio to tune for?

You installed them wrong. They have special lower insulators and work fine with the mitsu injector bung.

I don't see how I could have installed them wrong. Being they either go into the bung or not. I had the special lower insulators on the injector. They either seat correctly or don't. They are very simple to install. I think the problem may have been I am using the Perrin fuel rail so maybe something different there?

Hummm...

They actually fit just fine. You just didn't install them properly. We sell the same ones and they work great. They use a different seal that comes with them.

It's possible we are missing something. Anything is possible. But I am 99.9% sure these didn't fit. I said something about the Perrin fuel rail but its not the fuel rail. Its the part of the injector that fits into the manifold. The flare is bigger than the hole. If the flare won't allow the injector to seat all the way in, it doesn't matter about which seal you are using. We used the seals that came with the injectors but that doesn't matter cause the seals don't come close to sealing anything because of the flare. The flare is bigger than the hole. It fit in about half way but the seal wouldn't come close to sealing anything. Grinding down the flare the injector fit all the way in, sealed up perfectly. No leaks, perfect.

I guess it's not worth much more discussion. These are great injectors at a great price. I got mine to fit just fine after slight modification. Just interested now to understand if indeed they don't fit or if I did do something wrong what it could of been. Ohh well.

Thanks guys.

Update... the ones I got don't fit but will work. Just got a reply from the LancerShop:
"It sounds like you received the wrong injectors, we have not had any problems with fitment issues. The injectors you have will work no problem, but they needed some modifications to fit.
If you want you can return them for another set, sorry about the problems".

Very cool. Great customer service.

What you should have done is purchase a new set of lower isolator o-rings. They will stretch over the horn and allow the injectors to seat properly. Why would you grind a new set of injectors down?

Again they sent me the wrong injector. They think they sent me the injector for the Eclipse. And it can be modified slightly to make it work just fine. We know what were doing so modifing an injector is no big deal to me.

I also wanted to say the Perrin fuel rail fit perfect and wasn't the problem. It looks awesome! A must have for larger injectors imo. It also has a built in fuel port for hooking up things such as a fuel gauge.

Anyway, I think this topic is closed. Thanks all for your suggestions and help.

The only part I don't get is why install the injectors in the first place? I haven't seen anyone recommend injectors so soon in the mod game. Mainly, it seems folks do the injectors after a turbo upgrade. What am I missing?

Yeah, I didn't mean to jump down your throat. Sounds like you had a little extra work but now your set in the fuel game.
