Stock turbo info wanted

Hey guys I've always wondered what the difference was between the evo 8 and 9 turbo. I've read everything I can about them and I still can't find out if they have the same turbine and compressor wheels and just different housings or what? Can you take a evo 8 10.5 turbo and put on a evo 9 cold side? Are the chra the same? If u can answer any of that please do.
Thanks sorry for the nube question

I'm not sure the exact differences but the biggest point is that the evo 9 turbo makes more powahhhh so dump the 8 turbo and get a 9

for one the evo 8 hotside is not 10.5 its 9.8. the ix turbo is both bigger on the compressor and hotside, and yes you can put a 10.5 hotside from a 9 on a 8 turbo. google is your friend cause there is a bunch of threads about this including one with all the differences and very nice side by side comparison pics

SORRY! let me correct myself since people cant search on their own and i only quickly replied. Most of the 8 turbos are the 9.8 housing like 4g63evoeight stated. he is correct the 05 MR which is commonly called the 8.5 has the larger 10.5 housing but has the same size compressor housing. there are also differences in wg design. the 03 and 04 had a dual puck style wg, whereas the 05 (i think) and the evo 9's (i know for a fact) have a single puck wg actuator. what this means if you have a o2 housing for an 8 and you run the 10.5 housing you may run into problems with the wg not opening all the way... something to look into before swapping the housings. also there is a way to tell if a housing is a 10.5 single puck housing without it actually being off the car, and if you do not know the number stamped into the housing itself. standing in front of the car looking at the edge of the housing where it bolts to the manifold there will be a semi circle machined out of the front edge which alot of people do not know about... see picture below

as for the compressor housings, i do not know about swapping the compressor housing. if you were going to swap both the compressor housing and the hotside why not buy a low mileage 9 turbo out of the fs section? they can be had for like 4-600 dollars and then you will just need an install kit.
