Hanging RPM's at WOT

Hey guys,

I have a 2005 VIII, 83k miles, 26 psi. I bought the car modified and haven't messed with it. I've had it for two years and put 50k miles on it. Not sure all that is done to it or of the tune, but it has run perfect until two days ago.

Under WOT my RPM's will hang at about 3-4k. My boost gauge stays the same and my speedo goes up. There seems to be a loss of power and gas mileage.

Any ideas?

clutch will only "slip" when it's all the way engaged, otherwise it's already being slipped by the driver

go ~65 on freeway in 5th gear and floor it, you'll be able to tell if the clutch is slipping

^dont floor it in 5th - this is easier:

have your car in a parking lot or similar (flat surface) park/stop the car then (e-brake off) put the car into 3rd or 4rd and slowly release the clutch out in small increments if the car stalls its not your clutch if it moves forward slowly/slightly without the use of the accelerator your clutch is slipping

if it was a slipping clutch then wouldnt the rpms shoot up and the speedo not move. the OP is stating the opposite.

All depends on how worn the clutch is and where he's flooring it from.

I noticed my stocker was slipping just on feel alone while racing a bike, watched the next gear and sure enough it was rev-hanging at 5k until the driveline caught up. If I wasn't accelerating while it did that I wouldn't have beaten said bike.

Sounds like a sensor...like a TPS or a MAP. If you cant rev it out past 4k, that's probably it. As far as the clutch is concerned, its probably fine, clutches don't just stop your car from revving out randomly. If it was slipping, you would be revving up and not going anywhere.

I have heard this is a common problem on the 8 and can be tuned out. I also have a 2005 evo 8 with 70k and sometimes the revs will hang around 4-5k after doing a pull and putting the car into neutral

I'd check to make sure your map sensor is plugged in (sensor between intake pipe and cone filter)
