Evo IX MR Clutch Recommendations

I just picked up my first Evo. Its a 06 IX MR and has 58,000 miles on it. The stock clutch is starting to slip under heavy load or full boost. I have been driving DSM's for 15 years, but new to Evo's so im not sure what direction to go in. The car will probably never go over 500 BHP and won't be getting modded to much for awhile yet. I am looking for a clutch that can handle more power than the stock clutch, probably in the 400-500 BHP range, but want to keep the nice stock drivability with it. Whats the best clutch kit that would be a happy medium for this. I know what some clutches are rated for, but its hard to tell how they feel once installed. Any advice would be appriciated!

Exedy Twin HD, OEM throw out bearing, STM clutch fork stop is my recommendation for your application.

Thats to much clutch for what i need. I don't want a twin disc for a mostly stock car with basic bolt-ons. Its gonna be a long time before a bigger turbo or anything like that will be done

This is my set up and I love it. Great DD clutch.....My commute is over 100 miles a day. I had an HDSS with a lwfw love the TD so much better

Yeah, twin disk is just a silly idea for a mostly stock car.

I currently run the HDSS like mentioned above. It's a great DD clutch and not aggressive at all (Wife loves it over the 6 puck I had). Holds power just fine. I seem to be one of the lucky ones that don't have the lock out issue, so that is something to think about.

Another alternative is the new comp clutch:

Final thought, Which ever clutch you go with, a good amount of people seem to prefer the OEM throw out bearing over the aftermarket ones.

yeah i really like the stock clutch feel, but want it to be able to handle alittle more power. I have had the ACT 2600 w/ street disc in many of my DSM's and galant vr4 for many years and have never had any problems with it, but i have heard many bad things about the new ones.

Who makes the HDSS clutch your talking about? I would be using the OEM TOB, as i also agree its the best

ACT makes the HDSS. I had it on my MR with a LWFW(light weight fly wheel) was not my fav clutch. I had an OEM TOB as well was destroyed thats when I went with the Excedy TD

I had the ACT HDSS on my MR and wouldn't recommend it. It will lock out (sooner or later) depending on how you drive it, and its like a bear trap. Thats pretty rough on the 6spd trans. Which is weaker than the 5spd.

I love my carbonetic pro blade! The kit comes with a flywheel, tob, and pull to push conversion. The pedal is stiffer than stock. But the engagement is super smooth. No problems with up hill take offs, no lockout issues. Two of my friends with evos have decided to run this setup after driving my car.

If the stock clutch would be able to handle alittle more power, id just put a stock one back in. This is my daily driver and having a real heavy clutch is no fun for DD.
