C16 (leaded) versus CAT: The stinky winner

I used about 3 gallons of VP C16 race fuel week. It was mixed to give me around 100 octane. Since then, my exhaust fumes have been a little smellier than normal. I'm wondering if 1) I've damaged my CAT with just three gallons, 2) I'm still smelling the residue of last week's race fuel getting burned off, or 3) I have an over active imagination. If I have damaged the CAT with so little leaded race fuel, that should be a warning to others to stick only to high octane unleaded if they are running with a CAT. Comments?

LOL. Guess it is time for a test pipe in any case.

Yeah # 3 but the lead kills cats fast by binding/coating the "active" part of the cat matrix which allows extra hydrocarbons to burn/breakdown at a lower temp/pressure than it sees in the combustion chamber. I think this binding is irreversable too. Sooo this happens fast and it doesn't "fix" itself... Also Leaded gas slowly kills the O2 sensors...

.....but it smells so damn good!

I would never run C-16 though A CAT though, even a little bit will hurt the efficiency of the CAT. I will be doing back to back dyno testing with high flow cat and then with test pipe. Mainly because after putting in the test pipe I will be tuning on leaded race fuel... but I will get in a couple pulls on the dyno with the pump fuel on the test pipe before putting in the race gas and upping the boost.
