Tracking. Added to my "buy" list. Does the "ticking" sound resemble a "raspy" sound during acceleration? If I drive with my windows down, it also sounds like an exhaust leak. I know I am probably describing this horribly but these are the things that come to mind.

You guys have 4g motors, they all tick get use to it. Only real way to get them to not tick is to do the oem cleaning. I have heard using seafoam in the oil helps some but I haven't done that yet becaues I am use to the ticking.

I do not have any issues with "ticking" if in fact that it is "ticking", my friend. Once it is properly diagnosed, then I am good to go.

I really wasnt referring to you lavar. It just cracks me up how many people ***** about ticking but every 4g motor I have ever built, ran and owned has done it over time. Its just what it does. If you don't want lifter tick change the oil every 1000 miles before it gets dirty and creates build up.

This is what has me scratching my head as it started immediately after I put in the Amsoil Z-Rod 20w50 oil. It has less than 50 miles. Ummm...

well yeah your going to a thicker oil. It is gonna tick when its cold and not when its warm being it will change viscosity as it heats up causing it not to tick.

So would the OEM do the job? Is there a tool to do the lifters without removing the cams? I saw this posted on another thread but no one confirmed or denied its truth.

I don't think my noise is lifter tick as I have the lifter tick no big deal however I have more of a clacking noise and I can't pin point it...It's definitely in the head though
