You guys should keep this going. This is the type of information missing on this site. We don't have much, what fits what.
Kind of like a Stroker thread (PG stroker not the R rated, that goes in OT)

The DSM guys can be a big help here, they know most of the interchangable parts.

You right about those motors fitting. There are several 4G64's that won't fit. The transmission mounts up differently. Also you have to remember the EVO transfer case is HUGE!

Whatever you do make sure you get the right block and check everything before you build it. It would suck to build a whole motor, spending a lot of time and money and then it won't fit the EVO.

This is a really interesting concept.. What about the engine orientation, Motor mounts, bellhousing pattern?

I'm willing to try it assuming the block itself will bolt up to the tranny/transfercase.. I have an engine builder friend who loves these kinds of projects and I've been reluctant to take my car apart YET AGAIN to build up an engine because I don't have a donor engine.

I can see it.. Nice built up Evo head, sheet metal intake, 2.4L block, 272 cams.. etc.. etc.. all bolted up to buschur's stage1-4 components and their turbo upgrade, and ignition upgrade..

Whoops.. Stroker fantasy.. LOL

Im willing to bet the outlander 4g64, would be the best choice, due to it sharing the chasis with the lancer. Im not a professional, but I believe since the 4g92-94 has interchangable parts, so will the 4g61-4g69 series. Just my 2 cents.

No need to go with the more expensive Outlander; I think we will find that any Galant 1999-2003 will totally bolt in. If I am correct we are in good shape as these engines are plentiful and very cheap.
Of course we will need to deal with using the longer DOHC 4G64 timing belt and we will have to reorienate the cam gear timing as it will be a bit off with the 6 mm taller block. Also we may need to trim the timing cover to compensate for the 6 mm. All easy stuff.
Oh, and we will need to block 5 oil drain holes with freeze plugs or with threaded plugs at the top of the block. All this info is available on the dsmtalk thread (it has like 350 posts!).
I don't think these engines have oil squirters for the pistons but those may well be left off when using the right pistons. Magnus Motorsports has good info on this subject on their web site - they probably have lots of experience with engines that do not utilize the oil sprayers by now.
The work involved is a small price to pay. The cool thing is we can build that second block and get it all ready to make the swap happen quickly once we are all set and the car isn't stuck all apart waiting to built an engine using the stock Evo block for a doner.

Mabey someday we'll be using the 2004 Ralliart Lancer 2.4L block and be able to utilize its variable cam timing in conjunction with our DOHC heads.....
Who else has info on this - lets keep this one going?

Thanks again. This is really good stuff, and glad to see that a lot of you over there are interested to. Looked on a UK forum, one of the guys said that he is using the 4G64 crank with Jun rods and Norris Design pistons. He also says that a few more guys are running a similar setup! Ideas?

Stay away from the 99 galants. They use different cranks and wont bolt to any flywheels, only automatic flexplates.

I would imagine, there is a guy on www.galantforums.com that is putting an evo8 head on his 4g64. And the 4g64 should bolt into the evo8 chassis....

LBmir:

Are you sure the 1999 Galant crank won't work? Where did you learn this?

Thanks for the input - this helps.

Well, if you dont beleive me then You can buy my 99 galant motor for very cheap :P

But I bought a 99 galant motor first to swap into my car. Then I bought the flywheel and tranny from a 2000 eclipse only to find out that they wont mate to the motor. So I had to buy a 00 eclipse motor.

Honestly I dont know for sure if all the galants use the wrong crank or what the deal is. But It seems pretty stupid to have 2 different cranks for the same motor. So my best guess is that since the motor was new in 99, it was just something that they modified in 2000 for one reason or another.

I just start doing this project, I have a 4g64 from a 98 galant I thing, with my Evo 5 head and i thing the only problem that am going to have is with the transmition bolts.
