Should i buy the gt35r

Whats up guys so i am starting to get power hungry and my buddy wants to sale me his old GT3586r turbo. It comes with a garrett gt3586r turbo,38mm tial ex waste gate, manifold and lines.I checked the turbo out and it has no shaft place and no fins that are bent turbo seems to be in great shape it does have a 63 hot side and turbo spins with just me blowing air into it so it should spool quick. What are your thoughts about it.

I have a 2006 evo 9 i will list the modds that i have and hope you guys can help me see what i would need to run this turbo or if i should just wait and save up and get a FP turbo latter this year.

modds are as fallows

INJEN INTERCOOLER PIPING
INJEN INTAKE
HKS TURBO BACK EXHAUST
WEAPON R OIL CATCH CAN
WEAPON R TORQUE DAMPER
BRIAN CROWER 272 CAMS
SAMCO HOSE KIT
PERRIN LIGHT WEIGHT CRANK PULLY
EXEDY STAGE 2 CLUTCH
BORED STOCK EXHAUST MANIFOLD
APS 50/50 BOV
HALL MAN MANUAL BOOST CONTROLLER

Depending on the price. If it is a 3586 that's an FP upgraded 35R and good for a lot of power. It will work well on a stock block and a built motor. You will need other mods to take full advantage but it will grow with you. If the lag is not a deal breaker for you it could be a one and done upgrade.

You're bad with your and you're. lol

But OP, your current setup is not enough to support a 35r, at the very least you'd need a walbro 255, new injectors, a new FMIC, a new downpipe, and an exhaust.

And if you dont already have one, a Wideband O2 Gauge, and a boost gauge...

Ill agree, not nearly enough supporting mods to see that 3586 shine.

Is it a complete turbo kit? It sounds like it's missing some things that you would need. Most turbo kits come with: turbo, manifold, down pipe, wastegate, wastegate dump, and LICP. Most of this stuff is made specifically for the kit.

If its complete kit, you could always buy it and then buy the rest of the supporting mods you need.

youre definitely going to need to swap out a few parts to make use of the 35r.
1. BC cams are horrible, look into kelfords, GSC's, or cossies +valve springs/ retainers to rev higher and take advantage of the turbos top end

2. Injen LICP is small and probably will pop off everytime you WOT, id look into ETS, AMS, MUSE licp's

3. And the most important part of the car (exhaust) is going to restrict your airflow as the HKS tapers :/

Not to flame, but not having proper support mods will kill your car.

From the sum of what parts you have on the car, a turbo upgrade isn't the best mod for you at the moment. Add in the fact that it is a turbo capable of 750whp and you have a recipe for a laggy car that won't be all that much fun on the street. Big turbo setups are only fun when you have the upgrades in place to really let them run where they belong. Torquey 400whp car > laggy 400whp car any day of the week. If you aren't planning on a fuel system upgrade (pump/injectors!) you will run out of fuel very quickly before even maxing the potential of the stock turbo.

Just some food for thought. Good luck in your build regardless.

You're ready for it, motor wise, but with those mods, you're not going to have fun with the GT35R, it is such a dated turbo... get a stock frame turbo and enjoy low end torque with power throughout the band as well... I feel some people just want the 35R so they can tell their friends "I got a 35R..."

Thanks for all the feed back guys.I bought the 35r it came with manifold ,gt3586r .63 hot side turbo, tial 38 ex waste gate and dump tube.I got it becouse it was cheap I paid $1000 for everything I thought it was a steal.

I am planing on upgrading my fuel system when I install the turbo I was planing on doing 1000 bosh injectors and Walbro fuel pump. Any other feed back or ideas well be appreciated.

Exhaust. Exhaust. Exhaust. Exhaust.

Car's going to choke without one... Even an ebay exhaust, they work just fine! Get SOMETHING to free up some flow.
