leak from passenger axle
leak from passenger axle
Question.....so i have a clunking noise and xfer case leak at the passenger axle. Rt 46 mitusbihi is telling me it was due to being half a quart over full. I was pretty sure that's not even possible due to having the fill hole on the side of the case. Can anyone confirm? These guys actually replace the transmission only a month ago with a brand new 1
If you over Fill the Tcase, Which is where the passanger axle is located. it SHOULD leak out of the breather at high Speeds and youll smell it hit the downpipe, If its leaking right at the CV joint on the passanger side from the Tcase, the seal is Shot i have an Extra Seal if you need it. and yes you can do this seal with the Tcase still in the car and mounted up.Obviously, youll have to remove the CV joint and shaft. The clunking noise Could be something else, i sure hope they didnt ruin the boot on your CV shaft and have all the grease leak out. Its easy to tear that boot while removing the CV shaft if your not caustious, and yes the grease will leak out and you will have some issues@ the Cv joint.
also how could the Tcase be a half quart overfull? thats like putting more then 1 quart in it since it holds less then 75% of 1 quart. LOL

Rt 46 Mitsu is the biggest crock of **** dealer on the planet. I wouldn't let them clueless ****** tighten my valve stem caps.
The horror stories from that place are endless from sales to service. I lived in the area for years and talked with countless people that have had nothing but nightmares with that place.
Next they'll tell you that your going to need a whole new drivetrain. Steer clear from that scum hole.

Blowngasket, I really appreciate that Bro The car is still under The car is still under warranty, and they were the ones that replaced the transmission not even 1 month ago. Is it even possible to over fill the transfer case? I don't doubt that they would overfill it if they could these guys can't even replace light bulbs in the instrument panel. I'm just trying to get my peas and carrots together before I head over there after work to blow their spot up.
If you fill it the way your supposed TOO, you cant overfill it. The way i do it is get it on all 4s, and use a copper tube into the FIll line plug [17mm bolt head] and fill it, Drive it a lil, then refill till it comes out. If they filled it from lets say the breather, on top which is a easy way to fill it then yes they could have easily overfilled it. But like i said before if they overfilled it you would Definitly Smell DiaQueen LSD hit the Downpipe from leaking out of the breather and it would be ALL over under the car and on the Crossmemeber. Check the top of the Tcase near the breather its white, on a Goldish Galvinized plate with 4 bolts holding it down, if its oily then it was overfilled. Check under the Car, If your firewall and alternator have What appears to be brown, tanish gunk all over them, the ruined your CV boot. If its oily on the CV shaft, and around it near the Tcase then the seals shot.
Sometimes after taking the CV shafts out you have to replace the Seals, sometimes you dont. I play it safe and replace them if the shafts have been takin out. i dont like oil leaks on my parking spots..

Route 46 Mitsubishi, worst car buying experience of my life . When I bought the car they told me it had a bad clutch, turns out it was the transmission. They then went ahead and try to replace only a part, turns out that part wasnt replaceable. They then went ahead and installed 3 used transmissions all of which failed, this process took 1 month and 1 week. . The car has been back 5 * in 5 weeks to do minor bodywork fix the rims and replace light bulbs on the dash. When they gave me the car it was never detailed, completely filthy inside and out, brake light out and no backlight in the instrument panel. Now it's been a little over 2 months and I've actually only gotten to drive my car 2 weeks straight before I have another problem. Mike ko is a really nice guy and was a great help with the transmission issue. Mark from service was a complete douchebag and he's lucky I didn't beat the **** out of him. Dave who is the used car salesman supervisor is another line deceiving piece of ****. Now they refuse to replace the timing belt and brakes as was agreed upon when I bought the car. On top of that the bodywork and paint job looks like it came from Walmart

The breather on top of the TCase with the four bolts failed on my car. It had no bolts actually, and all my fluid drained out there from heat on track. However, those signs of leakage were way back and barely visible on the front of the driveshaft. (I wasn't able to imagine that being related to the passenger axle).
If you haven't already read through already, read the evomoto writeup on doing the clutch, as its likely the most informative reference item out there, and this way in case you get into arguments you know the parts very clearly. The oring is on step 37.

****update****...... So it turns out they finally figured out how to Install instrument panel light bulbs. The transfer case is no longer leaking after supposedly being over filled by half a quart. Clunking/poping sound was not there but came back almost when I got home...... There is about an eighth of an inch play back and forth on the passenger side axle could that cause that sound? I can actually wiggle the wheel back and forth just a tiny bit

Route 46 Mitsubishi was the 1 who installed the new transmission when I bought the car. They basically just told me they over filled the transfer case
Okay so I think I found out were the clunking noises coming from. There is a smudge mark on the driver side spring and I can tell the spring is rotating completely because this much mark is moved 180 degrees.
