TB Job: Crankshaft Pulley Holder?

Hi guys

I'm gonna start my timing belt job this weekend. Only thing im really concerned about is getting the crank pulley off. I don't have air tools/impact gun. Anybody know any tricks or tools to get that sucker off? I know some autopart stores have pulley holders that help to get it off? Any other suggestions? Thanks guys!

Fred

There is the old tried and true, albeit scary, method of putting the breaker bar up against the lower control arm or floor (what I did) and QUICKLY crank the motor over so the torque from the starter breaks it loose. I mean quickly crank the motor over...don't hold the key in the start position for more than a second.... Do this at your own risk!

Otherwise buy the specialty tool that locks in the flywheel so you can have at it with an air tool or homemade breaker bar. I think there is even a tool that locks the crank sprocket allowing you to have at it. I am not positive on the crank sprocket tool though...maybe someone else can chime in.

put a breaker bar on the bolt, one end on the ground. disconnect the crank sensor, and crank it over and the bolt will come loose

I put the engine at the timing marks and made from a piece of steel, a tool that bolts to the crank sprocket, the other end bolting to one of the holes for the accessory belt tensioner. But then I also had an air wrench.

Go rent/borrow a tool man. You could hurt yourself if you don't know what's up.

Got it done this weekend. Didn't even need to break the crank bolt loose! We were able to get the balance belt off without taking the crank sprocket off. Thanks guys!

So, why are the rest of us pulling this part? Tell us more.

You shouldn't be. That's the point.

It's really not that bad at all. Just takes a little time. The threads on here were making it sound like it was going to be a nightmare.

You can use one of those oil filter wrenches. Like one of the belt type material that has adjustable circle diameter to hold it.
