Switching from thick oil to thinner oil?

I am running Valvoline Premium Blue 15w40 oil and want to switch to VR1 for the winter. Is there anything I need to do in terms of a cleaning or can I just switch from a diesel oil to vr1 with no problems?

if this is the 4g63, why are you running that thick of viscosity and why are you running conventional oil vs synthetic ?

I did it at the advice of several people in Arizona I know who run premium blue and Rotella T6. With our extreme heat, they informed me that they had good results with running thick oil in the summer and then switch over to something thinner in the winter like VR1 or Amsoil Dominator 10w30

Run Amsoil AMO 10w40 all year around and don't worry about colder or warmer temps.

Guys, dont turn this into another "what oil do you run?" thread. They're plenty already.

I'd say depending on your mileage. From my understanding, if you ran 20w50 for 200,000 miles or more, you may run into issues if you went with say 0W30. I can't provide you with any details other than the heavier weight would push clearances out and the thinner oil would seep past.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong plz.

I see you're an Amsoil dealer, what is your opinion on the Dominator 10W30 vs AMO 10W40?

Overpriced snake oil lol, OP there are many threads here on evom about this topic, everyone has there own opinion on which brands they like and dislike.

Asking a dealer what their opinion is about their product is like asking an evo owner if they like their evo , Just kidding. Bad analogy lol. Plethora of knowledge on this awesome website!! Search!!!

Both very great. For engines driven hard I reccomend 10w30 racing dominator.

Staying on topic here instead of trying to sell him on my favorite brand of oil..

I wouldn't worry too much about it, I run 20w-50 in the summer, (car on high boost) and then 15w-40 in the winter (low boost). I've had good luck switching between them with just the one oil change.
