Compressor Housing Porting ??????????????

I know its common to port a TURBINE HOUSING (Hot Side) of the turbo. I`ll be sending mine but shop also recommended porting a Compressor Housing side. Has anybody done this???? Are there really any benefits doing it ?

How much would they be charging you for porting the compressor housing and what exactly would that porting include? What shop are you considering for porting?

I'll be honest with you and say that there isn't much if any power to be had in porting the compressor housing. Thus, they would just be fleecing you. JMO

I`ll be sending mine to MAP to do a hot side. They said they could do cold side for 65$ but I don`t see any gains. What other benefits could be there I don`t know but I i wanted to see what you guys think

I would never port the MHI compressor housing myself. Turbine housing yes, but compressor cover no. That's just my opinion though.

Even back in the Turbo Buick days I asked Harry Hruska of PT&E if it was worth it on a TO4E and he said that there were no proven gains to be had from porting the compressor cover in spite of the fact that his shop offered the service.

Instead of porting the stock IX cover I would rather purchase the FP flow advance cover which has a larger inlet and is surge ported.

That's 84mm. Does Fp make one for the gtII?

I thought the op had one when I was on my laptop so I could see signatures

I think that FP will cut them for any wheel. They'll do it for the BBK I know that. They will do it for the stock IX turbo. But, maybe it is not doable for the HKS due to differences not so much in the compressor wheel dimensions, but rather dissimilarities in the compressor backing plate, diffuser design and etc. That is a good question though. Why don't you call FP and ask.

Even if the secretary answers the phone she will go back into the shop and ask the machinists. I called her today to ask about cutting a 9.8 housing for my FP RED JB and she went and asked. I'll be sending that into them this week.

So, if they still will cut housings other than the 10.5 to fit the Red/Black turbine wheel. Who knows? They just might do what you're asking about.
