Transfer case help

Whats up guys. I recently purchased an 03 evo 8. I was told by the previous owner that transfer case was going and had to be rebuilt A.S.A.P.. I agreed and bought the car. Took the car home, dropped the transfer case, and this is what i found.. IS REBUILDING THIS EVEN POSSIBLE??

Definitely rebuildable however.

Break it down, check casing holes where the roller bearings sit in to see if its "perfectly circle and not oval/oblong" and also if there arent any grooves. otherwise, the diff case is a throw away.

Then, New bearings, on the diff itself, in the casing where the pinion goes through, then new pinion and crown wheel and seals.

Easier said than done. problably better to either just replace, or go with an RS diff setup.

Wowzer!! That transfer box is toast!! Mine is whinning at the moment but still useable. I've put some Carlube 75/90w hypoid gl5 in but this hasn't altered the whine I was given a quote for a rebuilt one - wait for it...don't faint....£1020 !!!! Blood and sand!! This is the price of a decent second-hand motor..lol

the problem here is you dont know the condition of the diff, all those shavings could have gotten in there and destroyed it, and u dont know the condition of the viscous coupler.

contact Jacks Transmissions or Shepard racing as those are the 2 shops i know of that do these things for a living. I recently had mine done by jacks and its really nice. Show them those pics and see what they say.

from what i can tell you from those pics, you AT THE VERY LEAST need a new center diff, bearings, new ring and pinion of course and i dont know about the condition of the viscous coupling but it looks bad. case dont know, only they can tell after inspection

i have an oem 8 non lsd center diff, pm me if u want one for cheap.

so it was able to be rebuilt?

I just picked up an evo and it won't move. jacked the entire car up off the ground and tried. Found the rear wheels will not move when but the fronts do. I have a feelings my transfer case is going to look somewhat like this one.
