Clutch for modded cars

I have been doing some research on this for a while and still couldn't decide which clutch and flywheel to get. I will be putting down between 400-480whp.

People are saying stock flywheel is good but the disc is not. My question is which clutch should I go with and also do you think I should still upgrade my stock flywheel too? or the stock one will just do fine?

1) ACT - I was thinking about that because I guess? Ultimate Racing is using the same clutch on their car as well. But they say it holds up 400+tq.. so I was thinking that might be little weak for a bigger turbo.

2) UR Ceramic clutch - They are claiming that it can hold up to 550whp.. that's very impresive because it costs less than $700.

3) Exedy/Cusco Twin Disk - That's what I want to get but it is more than $1k.. so if other clutches can hold up the power then i don't see a reason going with twin-disk..

Thanks for your help..

Memo

Degman, go with the ACT. You can get a disc that will handle 500whp from RRE. It also has no chattering.

We are using the ACT and it has stock like feel unlike other modded EVO's with a heavy pedal.

We actually have plenty of launches on our 500hp car and never had a problem with it.

I believe the ACT will hold just fine. It will actually put less strain on your car if it slips a little.

I got the HKS gd max twin disc setup on my car.
If you think at any time that you will be exeeding those power levels..put out the extra cash if u can and get a clutch like this.It is amazing.I launch at like 6500rpms with no problems!
it is expensive, but worth every penny.Best mod I ever did!

John Shepard is running a ACT with a street disk and is making over 900+ hp in his DSM. So I think the ACT for your EVO is the best answer for the $$$. I have been running ACT's now for 5 years. I love them. With a 2600 lbs pressure plate I am holding over 400 ftlbs of torque.

John Shepard is also used to swapping out the clutch disc after every raceday if he has to. Its all a matter of preference. Those that have not driven a twin disc will not recommend one, and those that already have one will never go back. The only "bad" thing about twin discs is the extra rattle noise upon disengagement , and the price for some. I enjoy a lighter pedal of the HKS GD max, not to mention I will probably never surpass its limits.

I just ordered the UR Ceramic clutch and we will see how it will hold up.
It doesn't come with an alignment tool so I will try to find one before the installation...

i just put in the exedy twin plate also, that thing is wonderful, it holds everything i throw at it and you can hold the pedal down with your big toe if you wanted....i think it feels less than my stock clutch did

The twin disc that I have driven in EVOs' are loud and heavy. Not my idea of perfect daily driver.

Go to your local parts store and ask for a clutch alignment tool for a RX-7 turbo or a 2.9litre Ford Ranger (can't remember if it was 4wd or 2wd one). Both of these vehicles use the same alignment tool as the EVO VIII.

BTW, I have the Cusco twin carbon and have had no problems.
