evo 8 motor in evo 9

I tried seaching some couldnt find what I am in search of

Long story short im possibly replacing my motor with a 2.3l out of a evo 8 so non mivec. Can I make it a mivec? I read some on the map oil line conversion would that work? Than Just throw my mivec cams in it?

Or am I missing anything?

Thanks for input

The block would need to be tapped for the MIVEC oil feed and you would need an Evo 9 head to retain MIVEC

Or use the map line you talked about. You need to reuse your 9 accessory brackets as well to clear the mivec solenoid on the head.

So could I keep the evo 8 head and use the map line than just reuse my mivec cams and brackes for solenoids?

No. evo8 head does not have MIVEC.

I think you have everyone a little confused with your question. The parts within the 8 head and 9 MIVEC are not interchangeable. Therefore simply changing an oil line will not turn your 8 head into a MIVEC head. The MIVEC is much more complex than the 8 head.

Just buy the vtec conversion line and run a honda head. Your tuner should be able to tune it in easily.

I wouldn't say the MIVEC head is any better, it's just more recent technology. There are built 8 engines making just as much power as some MIVEC engines.

I put an evo 8 motor in my evo 9 last spring. I had my original mivec head and mivec lines, so I didnt waste any money on the map mivec line. I just drilled and tapped the block for the oem banjo bolt and mivec line.

Honestly though, if I were to do it again, I would ditch mivec. Mivec is just a pain in the ***. Ok, so its got its advantages, but ive learned lately, its just more **** that can break, and parts are expensive. Plus, all the mivec crap on the back of the block just make things a pita.

If I were you, id say screw mivec. Id go with an evo 8 head and call it a day. Ill prolly be switching to an evo 8 head next winter I think.
