Grind going into 5th gear at high RPM

Having an issue im hoping to pin point.

I have a slight grind going into 5th gear, but only when im at higher RPM's. If i shift slowly as im daily driving, there are no grinds at all.

My first thought was bad synchro, but wouldnt that mean it would grind all the time, and not just at high RPM?

Any input would help.

Im in the process of a build right now, i have intentions of changing all my fluids when the build is done. Maybe ill get lucky using synchro mesh.

But what happened to your tranny? did it eventually blow?

It is only happening at high rpm because they are worn just enough to not be able to slow the gear set down. Eventually it will happen all the time but by that time the teeth on the gears will be damaged even more. Syncro mesh does not repair syncros.

Sounds like synchro going! It won't necessarily grind at low rpm but it will eventually get worse! I'm getting my funds together to send to sheptran

5th gear syncro is shot... it will get worse rapidly from when you first have problems at high rpm until the gear gets chewed up.

I've been having this problem ever since i bought the car. That was 32,000 miles ago and mine hasnt gotten any worse. Just annoying cause you have to shift into it slowly.

Same here, but I lost reverse in the process of this . Will literally never go into reverse, want it all fixed, sheptran!

Do you ever have problems with reverse?

I did a service on my trany that was doing the exact same thing and after using a diffrent lube the grind went away and everything is better.
