Camshafts recommendations?

Hey evom,

I recently bought a evo 8 from this forum.

Unfortunately, the camshafts were pretty much broken. (I should've brought technician to check this problem before I purchased it.)

My evo is pretty much modded as following:

evo 9 turbo
buschur 2.0 longblock
buschur 272
Precision 1200cc injectors
Walbro intank fuel pump
dc sport downpipe
hks carbon-ti catback exhaust
buschur race fmic
ETS licp
ams uicp
tial bov
turboxs aluminum race radiator
torque solution motormounts
AEM TRU-boost electornic boost controller
RS Transfer Case
Stock Transmission
Exedy HD Twin Disc Clutch
tuned on 93

What would you guys recommend for camshafts?
I am thinking either HKS 272 or 4G63 GSC S2.

Thanks!

P.S. I am trying to make around 400whp.

if the head already has the buschur 272's in it you have to buy a new set of buschur 272's. His cams are designed to run his springs and retainers. If you want to go with another options for cams then you will have to get new springs and retainers. As far as other options most people will tell you the kelfords or the s2. Depending on how many miles are on the head i would just replace everything.

On a side note, how did you know the cams where broken, and is anything else messed up? Valves or pistions?

Dont waste your $ on the HKS cams. GSC S2's or Kelford 272's

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have a friend who owns auto shop and also technician for evo track team. His shop is near by my house like 10~15 mins away. I took my evo to his shop and got an inspection there. First, he found out that head gasket was leaking, so it has been replaced. But he found out that camshafts were in bad shape when he was putting it back to gether. It is not really broken. sorry about choosing wrong word. So yea.. thats how I found out. valves or pistons are fine according to what my friend told me.

and yes, he told me that it would be nice to get same camshafts as you mentioned. He also recommends that kelford is really nice one. So, I am considering either kelford or the same camshafts that I had (buschur). gotta decide by tonight

It seems like many people have hks..
probably from personal experience?

HKS cams are extremely mild and not worth the money compared to Kelfords or GSCs.

Unless you want another broken camshaft, stay away from kelfords

thanks for the reply guys.

I wasn't quite sure, but do you guys think gsc s2 would work with buschur springs and retainers?

It's pretty obvious that it wouldn't work.. but just curious!

If it wouldn't fit in there, I guess I might just have to stick with buschur for now
can't afford springs and retainers for gsc
