EVO Problems
After being on this forum for the past five months and having read about the kinds of problems EVO owners are having, I visited some Porsche 996TT ,STI, and BMW M3 (E46) forums to see what kind of problems they were having...
Turns out that you can't do high rpm clutch drops in a Porsche 911TT and not damage your transmission, etc.- just like us.
The E46 M3s have had a number of engine failures- enough to call attention to.
Some STI owners complain about their paint quality too.
Porsche 996 owners have also had quite a few Rear Main Seal leaks.
M3 upgradeability concensus- very expensive and not much potential.
Anyone else out there care to chime in on these or other issues?

well for EVO a lot of people complain about the clutch being a POS but some owners say they never had a problem with, oh and also the paint is kinda cheap, but I don't think anybody has had a major problem like engine failiure (that's one of the strong points for evo)
Paint chips is about my only complaint. I also plan on getting a reflash soon because my bumper is getting stained from the overly rich mixture. Not to knock the car though.... I LOVE IT!
well i have my front transfercase go on me... taking it into the dealer on tuesday... and i only have 2600 miles on the car... Havent launched it or taken it to the track either..... Guess i just got a bad transfer case....... we'll see what the dealer has to say this week....

The only complaint I can agree with about the Evo is the paint quality.

My Evo seems as tough as nails. I flog it regularly (with the exception of clutch drops) and it's holding up fine.
Man, I read that thread about STis blowing engines at 350-400whp. What a bummer. I'm glad I opted for the Evo with it's stout 4G63. I'd be kicking myself if I was capped at such a "low" power levels. I hope for those guys' sake someone solves the problem soon.

Thanks guys,
One of the reasons for my post was that quite a number of people visit this board and read about some of the problems that EVO owners post about and say: "If the Evo has problems like that, I'm not going to buy it".
Like ez76 said, it's easy to think that if you bought car "X", you would not have any problems and life would be grand. The fact is, though, that any car you buy is going to have issues of one kind or another. And, generally speaking, the more expensive the car, the costlier the repairs.
