I have been looking on a evo 8 from 2003 from usa, it has a 5 speed gearbox. How strong are they?
I know on the early evo 8's the pistons are not forged. How much power can they handle? The car has 390HP and a evo 9 turbo and have other cams too, full boost from 2500rrpm.
Should i look at evo 9's instead?

full boost from 2500rpm? no. spooling at 2500rpm? yes

full boost is around 3100rpm

 

they are plenty strong it just goes by what you want to do with it

 

For stock internals what power the car has is about the limit. Cast pistons are nice if the engine is not abused. Oil consumption is usually zero.
