hi. i need advice on what to do with this turbo. we recently took the turbo of my brothers car because he is going bigger and while switching exhaust housing we notice that some of the fins on the exhaust side where damage. now this turbo ran fine on his car but he was running low boost, so the question is how bad does it look and would i be ok running this turbo in my car? would it hurt performance and if yes how bad? the turbo is a hta86 with around 3k miles on it. the damage could of happen when he broke valve guides on his car but since that we never pushed the turbo so is hard for us to know if it was running 100%. thanks and any expert or knowledgeable advice would be highly appreciated.

 

send it out for a rebuild would be your cheapest option. i wouldnt run that with the fins like that there pretty bad

 

Do not use. Send it out for a rebuild (what I would do) or look for another turbo.

 

0ne last this is that there is no shaft play at all in this turbo. wonder if i should just pass on the deal since i was actually buying this from my brother.

 

Not to thread jack, but how much and where are the recommended places to rebuild a 9 turbo (just for preventative measures, not due to anything wrong other than very little shaft play)?
