Replacing HLA "lifters" quick question

Like the title says, just a quick question regarding replacing "lifters". Can I just drop in the lifters out of the box or do I need to pump them full of oil before installation? In the repair manual there is a cleaning procedure with diesel fuel, if you a reusing the lifters. It might be a while before first start up. Assembly lube is being used.

I've tried searching, thanks for the advice!

Cheers,

CB

They should do just fine with a light oil. I used kerosene. The worst that could happen is having a loud tick.

Just to specify. You would "pump/prime" up the lifter with a "light" weight oil before installation? Or you would "lightly"apply oil to the body of the lifter before assembly? I am installing everything with an assembly lube.

So pumping/priming the lifters with oil is the norm before installation to eliminate ticking upon first start up? Does it also aid in protection of the inner spring upon first start up? Just wanting to know the ramifications of both scenarios (filled/not filled with oil).

Thanks!

I bought some no tick lifters and the instructions said to simply bleed them before installation. I did that and they were factory filled with oil already so once you are done bleeding them just throw them in.

with most aftermarket lifters, including ours you want the lifter to be soft and able to plunge when installing. This way it wont hold a valve open on start up.

Thanks for the insight Travis! That makes sense and gives me some peace of mind.
