Plug Fouling

I have an issue with the car on filing plugs. The car is currently being tuned and I put new plugs in the car about 3 months ago and maybe drove it 3-5 times after i put in new plugs and gapped them. Had issues getting the car to start to get idle logs sent to my tuner; so i checked the spark plugs and i find the plugs are totally covered in black soot and smelt like fuel. The car was previously tuned on e-85 while previous owner owned it and he said he was going through plugs also a lot that wouldn't start his car. I'm getting it tuned on 93 right now, and I came into the problem with the plugs. My buddy and I were talking and was thinking of possible ideas of the fuel pumps over powering the stock fuel pressure regulator.

If anyone has any input it is greatly appreciated.

Fuel Modifactions:
-Buschur Double Pumper
- FIC 2150 Injectors
- Stock fuel pressure regulator

Do you have a constant 14 volt rewire kit powering the double pumper?

Honestly I don't know that answer. I would assume it comes with the buschur double pumper. I bought the care with eh double pumper already installed.

I am running FIC 1100 high z injectors with a walbro 255 and a constant 14 volt pump rewire kit and I was having issues with the stock FPR being over run. I know a lot of people will say that the stock fpr is good up to 600whp but my personal experience did not agree with this misconception. Once I installed an aftermarket FPR with a gauge and set it up I never had an issue with rich afr's or fouled plugs ever again. Just saying if a 255 can over run it a double pumper definitely could. A lot of guys drill out the siphon tube in the fuel pump assembly to take care of this issue but your double pumper set up might already be set up that way. I have no experience with double pumpers and I don't claim to know much about them but again my single Walbro 255 was over running it with a rewire kit.

That info totally helps knowing it fixed your issue. Which aftermarket fpr did you buy and about that rewire where did you get that so I can look on my car to see if I have the rewire installed.

I got an aftermarket FPR kit from STM actually. It came with the mini fuelab FPR and all the lines and everything. As far as your pump being rewired you can take the bottom portion of your back seat out by unclicking the two tabs in the front of the seat then lift up and out on the seat and it will come right out. Look at the access port (small square cover with 4 screws in it, there's one behind the driver seat and one behind the passenger seat, you want the one on the drivers side) if you have a rewire kit then you should see some wires going into the side of that access port. If there are no extra or separate wires going into the side of that cover chances are very strong you do not have a rewire kit. The best way to do it though would be pull the plug off the top of the pump assembly with the key turned to the "acc" position and then you can measure the voltage at the plug. Evo's run like 9-10 volts at idle or when the key if just turned to "acc" for priming prior to starting the car. Then the ecu has a "switch over" point where when you are going into boost it switches from 10 volts to a full 14 volt load. So a lot of people rewire the pump for a constant 14 volts so it never runs too lean ever. A lot of people say the 14 volt rewire is a bad thing but as long as you're running an aftermarket FPR I don't see it as a bad thing at all seeing as how you will always have all the fuel you need for boost and safe driving. I would way rather have an issue with the car going too rich vs too lean. For what its worth I do realise the last statement there is pretty obvious but not everyone knows that. Good luck, I was going to say check your ignition coils but since its all of the plugs and not just two of them it has to be fuel related.

Have you installed a base tune for 93 yet? Also starting the car and not letting it warm up before shutting down is a great way to "FOUL" spark plugs.

I'll have to check under the back seats then when I have a day off of work.

Yes I have a base 93 rom in the car trying to get all my idle logging done and now ran into this.

The fireman brought up a great point. I assumed you were running a base Rom for tuning 93 octane. What do you have an EVO 8 or 9? Maybe try running a different base Rom and see if that helps first. For the 9 it should imo be 88590015(I have a 9 and use this Rom and to my knowledge about 95% of other ppl do as well). For the EVO 8 maybe someone else can chime in what the best Rom to use is for a base tune.
