Its the throwout bearing rattleing in the hub- annoying as **** but not a major prob. Mine does it at idle and when you press the clutch it isolates it- Thats going to be a cluster f!@# to tear down the tranny for that

Mines done the same for over 18k miles now... depress the clutch pedal and the sound goes away. Makes me wonder if a twin disk is reallly going to be any noisier than what I have now?

Quick time doesn't recognise that 3gp file.
Can you post it in mov, wmv or avi/mpeg format?

I don't know. I have quicktime 6.5, the update option says it's up to date and when I try opening that link it says that file format is not recognised. Never even heard of .3gp extension.

update--short version cuz my head hurts

turns out the noise was chunks of 3rd gear destroying the rest of the gears. They pulled my transmission apart, saw a bit of blue on my clutch plate, and voided my warrenty. Then they pulled my trans case apart and told me that the 3rd gear teeth had been bent and small chunks were missing which ended up destroying the rest of the gears. He said my trans oil was black from all of the metal particles, something he wouldnt expect to see from a car with 5500 miles.

$4900 parts and labor

i never abused my car...
i never dumped the clutch in any gear
was rev matching my downfall?

but i guess mitsubishi has a different idea of what abuse is....

****ing sucks

It's post like this that really make me freak out!! PLEASE don't tell me that you're just going to pay!! For 5k, I'd be willing to sit at their dealership for a week to share my thoughts with any customer that walked through their doors...DEALERS SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET AWAY WITH THIS! If you can truly say that you haven't intentionally beat up your car, then make them replace it!
