264/264 Jun intake cams...
Hei guys we are trying to install Jun 264 cams on an Evo 8 here in the shop, so I was wondering can you use the stock springs and retainers on the car or not. Also, when checking on the Jun website, it says that the Jun cams require special springs and retainers for the installation.
Your feedback is appreciated, Pleae let me know ASAP.
Thanks

From what I understand it's just the 272's you need the springs and whatnot to work.

I beleive all of the jun cams require spring upgrade due to the cam lift. Or valves will be floating. jun 264 has a higher lift than the hks 272. Normally they are suppose to comes with springs.
With the shorter duration and higher lift, its a very aggressive cam, the stock springs will float at high rpm with such an aggressive profile.. What RPM is just a guess for me, however if your looking at 8000+ redline, your going to have to upgrade the springs anyway.

Oh and let me point out, its possible that the lift (what is the lift of that cam?) is enough to bind the stock springs which means even if the seat pressures were adequate, you'll just end up damaging something if they bind. Again, from what i know about this stuff, your definitely going to have to at least measure the stock springs rate and compressed height to verify it will work.. if your already doing that, then a replacement only makes sense.
When I looked into purchasing this I was told that yes you also need their springs and retainers for them to last so they wouldn't even sell them seperate so I am saying yes. This was a vendor online so please take it for what it is worth.

Thanks for your feedback guys!
We knew all that, but the customer had a post all that since he needed everybody's opinion
JUN Japan says that YOU NEED the springs and retainers.
Also, the seller told him that the position of the green paint on the spring does not matter. Actually it does. The green on this set goes on top ( more coils on teh bottom). Mr Tanaka of JUN verified all that on the phone with me.
Thanks for your feedback again! This will make the customer feel better

actually both hks and JUN recommend using racing springs to prevent vibration at higher rpm
jun 264's have 10.5 lift, which is the same as hks 272
theres no reason why jun cams would need spring and not hks
but then how many people do you know that run hks cams with racing spring?
jun 264's will work with stock springs no problem, to save money you can also use jun springs with stock 1st gen eclipse retainers.

1) I would actually listen to JUN
2) If the stock springs do not take the abuse, who will warranty the work
I talked to Mr. Tanaka yesterday, so I would do what he told us to do. Wealready did, but I still called him for a refernce.
Also, IT DOES matter which way the JUN springs go...

the bottom line is it will work just fine without them, most people dont get springs with jun cams.
did i ever say it doesnt matter which way the springs go, most people who install them are experts and know, I never installed them myself.
