While I'm in there :)

So here's the deal:
Stock block Evo IX with 103k miles with original head gasket and head bolts.

I plan to change the t-belts, all pulleys, tensioner, seals, and gaskets I can get to.

I'm debating on switching cams. I currently have Kelford 272's and I'm looking to improve spool and top end.

I've heard some S2's might just do that.. Is it worth the hassle of selling my kelfords and buying the GSC'S?

Also, I'm thinking of inserting some head stud's. I know it's the lazy/cheap way out but can I safely just switch out the stud's one at a time? I plan on running 30-35psi on a FP green, are ARP's still adequate or do we need something better now days?

Lastly, I hear one maybe two noisy lifters and might change those as well, what is the preferred lifter to purchase? I know on DSM'S it's the 3g lifters... What is it on an Evo ix?

Here is my current state of tune:

If you're looking for spool you can just play with the Mivec for better spooling. GSC S2s are pretty good. There's a cam test that AMS did a long time ago on an Evo 8 that showed Kelford having the better performance out of many other camshafts

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-cam-test.html

I know it may not seem applicable to a Mivec head, but it gives you a rough idea of what you might want.

ARPs are just fine

I believe most of us use OEM lifters but you can still get the GSC zero tick lifters, many people buy those as well, it's really up to you.

I would stick with the kelfords, if you had some junk like hks cams, then I would switch.

Exactly. The Kelfords are great cams. Some people prefer the GSCs, but the gain (if any) wouldn't be worth buying/installing new cams and selling the old ones.

From what I've seen, most people run OEM lifters.

Tom posted that he does recommend moving from kelfords to S2's to increase spool and top end... See link to my tune in OP post 24.

Though I would like to see more people agree on that topic before shelling out the cash.

OK, guess I'll go with OEM, or GSC lifters.. Whichever is cheaper.

Now the question of installing them one at a time. I've read the forum is still divided on that topic.

Anyone with first hand horror stories when this was attempted? Of course I would take it one at a time and check torque every step of the way.

Stud's are needed if looking for 30-35psi on a fp green with stock head gasket right?

Topline lifters here, they are zero-tick and very affordable.
