Question OK, so not happy with QM8, any recommendations?

Well I have had this clutch for close to 3000 miles...0 launches and mostly street driving. Clutch is been good, grabs awesome and do love the push conversion. But I have finally fed with the noises it makes. I dont know if I'm the only one that have to deal with a very annoying deceleration noise (I have seen the thread about it but we cant decide on what it is since they also mention other clutches), but it definitely started when I installed the new clutch. Since, I have sent the transmission to rebuild thinking it was the tranny and also sent out the clutch for inspection and when I re-installed everything back, the noise was still there.

So the car is putting around 540ft/lbs of torque and I would like to try another brand. I know the triple exedy is proven, but I already had that one and would be my last choice since then I would have to pay extra to keep the push conversion. Was looking at Competition Clutches and Spec Clutch for their twin units. Any have any experiences with this clutches regarding the noises...I'm not worried about the normal chatter when the pedal is pressed, I'm concerned about the obnoxious deceleration noise!!!

Don't get the Spec-C, period.

Do you want to stick with the push style?

I would love too stay with push style...thats why I looked at the SPec. They do offer a twin with push style and spring loaded discs.

Too many issues with the Spec-C. There's a whole review thread in the review section of the forum with many disappointed Spec-C purchasers.

It's one of three options as I see it:

1- Stay with your QM8
2- Purchase the AMS Exedy double / triple push style clutch.
3- Just convert to the regular pull type clutch with an Exedy twin with a Monoloc. The twin can withstand that torque. I've seen it withstand more actually.

Yes. The clutch works, no complaint there!

The noise is why my car will never have a solid hub clutch again. I went to an ACT HDSS and that slips so I will be trying the ACT HDG6 which is rated for 625. The HDSS is rated for 475 and mine holds that but anymore and it slips so the additional 150lb/ft of the G6 clutch should be plenty.

This is a good discussion.

I have gone thru act mb7 hdss & HDG6 clutches & ripped the rivets out with zero launching, just a lot of hilly take off's & enjoying the twisties with +500 ft/lbs.... The HDSS struggled to shift @ 8k & the HDG6 shifted nice @ 8300. Act said i launched my car to hard....umm, my 2 step is set to 3400 & I rarely launch my car, so i know that wasnt the case....same failing method, 2 different style sprung clutches.

I went with the exedy twin HD, lots of decel noise & the window of clutch engagemnt is small. Not to mention the horrible shreek of the clutch..RRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRR. Shifting is the best quality of this clutch for me in my evo.

I now have a comp stg 2 with the solid disc, holds the same ~540wtq, awesome pedal feel & easy to drive, but the clutch stinks with the slightest slip in hilly areas & the decel noise is as bad as the exedy twin....besides that, it shifts the worst of the bunch.... I have chased the clutch rod adjustment, i can get the clutch to slightly slip & the shifting is still bad @ 7800....so i backed the rod out so she doesnt slip under load....now i have to short shift

my stocker shifted @ 7800 without issue & held 380ft/lbs & looked great when removed with 30k miles of use.

everyones experiences are different in some way or another

I wish i knew of a clutch that didnt make a lot of noise & held torque with good city driving manners......

I have yet to experience any decel noise with my Exedy twin. I've gone through 3 brands of clutches and the Exedy is BY FAR the most comfortable, manageable, and durable clutch I've installed.

I don't know how the triple will compare to the twin in terms of driveability, but nothing comes without a price, yet I've heard many good things about the triple Exedy.

The triple drives amazing but it has a good amount of decel noise.

I'll make a video to show the nose. Because prior to the QM i had the triple and had no Deceleration noises. And yes it locked me out at 8500.

probably this is a stupid question I have a competition stage 3 clutch that I am going to put next week. Do you also have to change the Flywheel. I was looking lancershop for Competition Clutch Forged Ultra Lightweight Steel Flywheel - EVO 8/9 . I but the car and I don't know what kind of clutch and flywheel has. thanks

Stick with the OEM flywheel, you want to stay with a heavier flywheel with AWD cars and the OEM flywheel is the heaviest of them all. If it is an OEM flywheel just resurface it.
