Think machine shop messed up! NEED ADVICE!

Took my head in for a valve job and some new valve guides got it back last week and noticed they blasted the entire head including the cam journals! What are my options here anyone seen this before? Why would they do that!

blasting the journal is not a problem. but not a big fan of bead blasting engine parts. impossible to get all the beads cleaned from all the nooks and crannies they hide in. with heat and vibration they will find the oil steam. seen many fresh motors ruined from this.

Its not a big deal... but IMO I don't feel as if its acceptable. If it were me I would at least ask that the journals be polished afterwards, although that's not the main issue. Like 94AWD said, Those little beads hide and got lodged everywhere... they are sure to make an appearance eventually.

Its a little more complicated than polishing journals--that removes material and can potentially cause oiling issues--best to leave it alone. You could take the time and wash everything down. buy some long machine brushes and work thru all the oil galleys and scrub it all down. Not much choice since its been assembled tho.

I would ask if the cylinder head was sonic cleaned.

If it wasnt, i would be a bit concerned.

Do you know what type of media they used?

Regardless of the media used, it's tough to get it all out without it being sonic cleaned....unless if it was walnut shells.

I absolutely agree, but if there is enough material for a light polish, I would personally prefer it.... Maybe take it to a different machine shop this time around, though.. lol

Very nice, wish I had it. Don't take this the wrong way, the car kind of reminds me of my old Nissan SE-R in styling. ( that's a good thing) Hence the attraction! Again, Nice work all around. Congrats.

not a fan of media blasting personally, don't want to risk having that media get into the oil steam

Bead blasting the journals is some rookie ****, there is no point to doing it!

I wouldn't run the engine without polishing them now.

Took it to another machine shop yesterday and they cleand it the best they could and polished the journals a bit.... Really pissed at the original machine shop I had a pretty interesting conversation with them yesterday I asked for some money back to cover the haed gasket I used and to cover the money I spent at the new machine shop and they offerd me $22 because he said he can get a "oe" quality one for that LOL. Should have just went with the machine shop I normally use partially my fault I guess!
