Knock Knock... Whos there.. Evo Knock ...
So been searching and reading and searching and reading. Thought I would post and see if maybe I am missing anything.
So trying to track down some knock issues.. It seems to be phantom knock but can't source what is causing it.
Car
Evo IX - Mods are in my signature..
Symptoms.
When driving if I don't stomp the pedal my SES light will flash at me. usually in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear so happens in any of them. But its not all the time. Some times when I do a real 3rd gear pull I will get some knock and some times I won't . when I log I see the knock counts they are 1-3 counts then sometimes will be over 6 but usually hit only around 1-3.
things I have looked for..
downpipe hitting - didn't see anything visiable
Charge pipes all look ok
no boost leaks
Log data
about 80% ijdc
27/28 lbs of boost
93 octane
AFRs at full boost hover 10.9 to 11.1
Through my research doesn't appear that the Knock sensors go bad that often but who knows if that is my issue or not so wsa going to see if there was any other suggetsions before I go down the replacment knock sensor route. Sure I am leaving out some key data points only on my 2nd cup of coffee..

Pull a log with only a few samples like load, rpm, knock, ign*, so you get a good sample rate. Then try a 3rd or 4th gear pull and look for dramatic changes in timing for a relatively small change in load or rpm. Say from 280load/@3800/4* to 270load/@4100/7* then smooth it out.

there is such a thing as rich knock as wella s not running enough timing for the fuel mixture.
check to make sure youre actually logging the numbers you want to be running and aren't being bitten by cell to cell interpolation, and then maybe try leaning it out a tad (keep it above 11 but below 11.5). you may see less knock and more power.

Thanks I can give that a shot as well. This issue has been trickey for me to track down..
