Clutch Choices: QuarterMaster 8 Leg or Comp Triple
Clutch Choices: QuarterMaster 8 Leg or Comp Triple
I need some help choosing a clutch for my 2005 Evo 8 SSL. The car currently has the following mods:
-MAP 2.4L Block fully built
-Evo 8 Head with GSC S2 Cams, springs, retainers, and no lift tickers.
-ETS V Band Turbo Kit with a FP HTA 3586 Turbo.
That should be enough to give you and idea of what the car will make. I'm guessing around 600-700 whp and 500ish tq. Maybe more with the 2.4L.
Anyways, I'm planning on daily driving the car. It'll be tuned on E85 and 93 octane and stay on 93 octane most of it's life. I don't really drive a lot but I would like a fairly easy clutch. I have a FX450 in my STi and I love that one but I want to do a multi disc for the Evo.
So with all of that information in mind what do you think is better in your opinion, the Comp Triple or the QuarterMaster 8 Leg with the HRB?

Thanks!

I live in Chicago and hit heavy traffic everyday. My QM 8 leg lasted 15,xxx miles then left me stranded on the highway last week. Amazing clutch, I loved it, but for a daily I need something that will last much longer.
QM is noisy, very noisy. That never bothered me, after 1-2 weeks you get used to how it engages and it becomes very predictable and easy to drive IMO. BUT it didnt last very long at all. Rebuilds are cheap so if its not you only car, like mine, I say go for the QM cause you can afford the downtime when it craps out. If you are like me and its your only car do yourself a favor and get a clutch with a longer life span.

How often do you beat on it though?
So I am on the QM 8leg. It is so much better than the QM 6leg, however it still has lots of noise idle, decel, accel, cherping, ect. I am on an RS evo so I don't have any sound deading in the car. I also have a solid front mount.
Every once in a while I will stall it, other than that if you rev up to 4k and let the clutch out you will not have any problems.
I have road raced on this clutch, I have daily driven in LA traffic which blows big time. So my car is more or less driven about 40 miles a day. Mostly highway, with mild to moderate traffic, and I am still happy with it.
Hope that helps, it was just a scatter of thoughts.

Define beating on it? Only launched it 3 times. It saw daily driving 100% of the time. Quick slip around 2000-2500 rpms for a slow start is how I drove it 99% of the time. It basically just saw high rpms and fast shifts but not power shifting/nlts. Daily driving is what killed it, not abuse.
