Darkhorse,
Running, and running well are two different things... remember I'm not trying to bump heads with you, but your example is off base to my point.

Im not second guessing your expertise, but it seems to me that you have found the EVO engine to be completely "Out of spec". This engine is the same engine that produces countless 330+ dyno sheets, and easily. Every post is about how awfull this engine specs out, yet this engine can and will handle/produce more hp per liter than just about any mass produced engine out there, stock.

"Yeah, you can probably do it for a lot less money, but I'll talk with you in 100k miles and we'll see who's having more fun."

I know I wont.
there is no doubt that you do an amazing job on these engines but i do tend to agree with superz here. it seems like every post that you have made has been extremly informative but made the evo engine appear like a piece of junk. in your opinion, do you think that the engine is good or bad or why do you think there are so many out of spec parts in these engines?
btw, thanks for the great information and great photos. i have really learned a lot from you and i have to say that you do a job that is just mind blowing.

I feel that all engines are out of sync. What Darkhorse is pointing out is what is needed to get the engine precisely correct and in all purposes with correct tolerances. Remember these engines are most likely made quickly and inspected to be sent out. Mitsu. couldn't afford what Darkhorse, machine shop, engineer does. Keep up the good work, we rarely as a consumer really see what is wrong with our engines and what is needed to be done.

Yes, you can make 400whp for a dyno pull or 1/4 mile run or two, but what comes from the factory (both strength wise and tolerance wise) I wouldn't trust to run under high load and temperature (like a few hard track days) for a long time.
I won't be keeping this car to 100k either, but I don't plan on being surprised when I experience an internal engine failure "all of a sudden" or "out of the blue" and I certainly won't come on here and post a thread titled "Mitsu screwed up on the motor" because I abused mine, like so many clutches.
Blonde, FWIW, Darkhorse never said that the 4G63 was a piece of junk. He has, however, pointed out various tolerance variations with the production motor. I find his posts informative and he could very well keep this information to himself, but chooses to post it here for everyone's benefit.

Most all motors from the factory are out of spec. That includes Ford, Chevy. Dodge. Honda, All of them. They do not have the time or the power to blueprint every motor that passes by. No matter what motor it is, you can get better performace and durabilty if you blueprint the motor. That all that was done here. He blueprinted the head. this is nothing new, it's been done for years. All pro race motors are blueprinted even if it's off a stock block and head combo. This does not say the Evo motor is bad, but they all can be improved.

This information is incredible! Thanks Darkhorse!
This almost makes me worry about doing anything to my car now... would it be safe? Reliable? How about 50K miles down the road? This is definitely something to think about if you plan on doing serious mods on a daily driver.
Maybe if the price is right I'll have my head blueprinted too..
