So I had a problem with my original turbo on my 03 evo. It was producing maybe 15 psi from it's original 21 and wouldn't go anywhere after that. Also started whining in a bad way. Checked it out and had a lot of shaft play in and out, shop confirmed and said turbo was bad.

Picked up a used 05 turbo no bent fins and zero shaft play. I installed it primed it, new oil, new coolent new gaskets and took it out for a drive. Same exact problem, whine plus no boost once the boost peaks at measly 15 psi I feel I have zero acceleration. I'm stumped, any help please.

Did you replace the Wastegate also? Sounds like the gate itself couldn't hold past 15 PSI.

 

Yes waste gate was replaced, I also pressurized the wastegate and it opens and closes fine and holds pressure.

 

what exhaust?

 

Was told it was Vishnu, came with the car. Pretty crappy exhaust work but I don't see how that would create the noise I'm hearing. Clogged cat could create my boost issue I think but the noise is what's worrying me the most.
