Talking help... asap

***I Finnally Found a Solution!***

on the fuel pump housing on the top there is 3 hoses. one of them is to vent the tank. I smelled fuel after a trip and took apart my back seat to get to the fuel pump housing. Well i found the piece for the vent was broken off. Anyone have any ideas of where to get this piece or how to fix this problem? I went to Mitsubishi parts and they told me I would have to replace the whole houseing for like some rediclious amount of money, and they did not carry that once piece.

Someone please help me with some ideas.

Solution:

ok so finnally found a solution for this problem. The dealer wanted like $400 something to replace the whole fuel pump housing, LOL. Yeah that was a joke! So I took a guess at something and purchased a "Lancer" fuel pump housing from a local junk yard. The pump housing is different but, guess what they have a same plastic connectors, and it took a few minutes. The guy at the junk yard was like its not going to work bla bla bla, and sure enough same exact plastic connectors! Wahoo!!! This is great, only cost me $75.00 to buy the whole pump housing which of course I made the guy who installed it pay. Hope this helps someone else!

if its broken, and you didnt break it, then its covered by warranty. so dont let them try to charge you money.

You put the cover back on, put the seat back in, take it to the dealer and tell them you smell gas in the cabin. If they don't fix it under warrenty I would be shocked!

Keith

PS: That is all assuming you are on the stock fuel pump, if you changed it out they can claim you damaged the assembly.

<edit> read further down. Acctually you probably DID break it! I almost did on mine wrestling with it when I changed out my pump.

Check in local (and on line) junk yards for a wrecked EVO, also post up in the "parts for sale/wanted" forum here on Evolutionm.net.

BTW, with that part broken you are dumping GALLONS of fuel on top of your tank and letting it run onto the ground. Your car is a horrible fire hazzard right now.... and you are probably getting horrible mpg when driving it....

Go to a dealer and order the part. If it is just a crack, remove it and use super glue to fix it.

The reason this thing is so expensive is because the dealer will replace the entire assembly (Pump, filter, housing, level, etc) I don't know that the upper portion or even the skeleton is available seperately.. Definitely try to get the part from a salvage yard.. you may get lucky and find an assembly that has the upgraded walbro pump on it.

From what I can tell in the manual, the fitting is simply a 90 degree bend to run the fuel back to the tank.

Why not go to Home Depot an look for a brass fitting that you can replace it with. Depending on how badly the fitting is broken, a little dremel work and make a hole to fit the brass fitting. Heck, I think you can just drill a new hole and it should work.
