Deck head after only 300 miles?

Hey guys,

So I recently purchased a used cylinder head from a shop I frequently deal with. The head came off a shop car and only has about 300 miles on it. I will be installing the head on my new shortblock and was wondering if it would be a good idea to get the head decked first? Can I get away without Doing so? Whats a good way to clean/prepare the surface before installing?

Run a ruler the ones with the metal edge on the side or any other piece of metal that you know is straight to see if it is smooth or needs work same with the block. Not sure how accurate this method is but I have heard of it.

spend the money and have it surfaced--its the best way to ensure a proper seal.
