BIG PROBLEM. My Evo is making a horrible clicking noise.

I wish I could post a sound clip of this but the recorder I have isn't sensitive enough. Yet the sound is quite loud.

At a stop nothing out of the ordinary. Push in the clutch ( hear some chatter, normal i guess ) Put it into gear and let out the clutch and soon after it begins to roll: click............click.........click.....click...c lick..click.click. THe faster you go the more clicking you get. Tranny? Driveshaft? Waiting for Monday until I can take it to be inspected. This doesn't seem liek a minor problem.

Thanks in advance.

is it RPM dependent or speed dependent?

does it continue if you push in the clutch while at speed?

Hey I had something similar with my evo. It turned out to be a slow leak in a tire, it had lost enough air to make this loud smacking sound, I thought it was my engine at first. Also check for rock in tire, very possible.

Might be a bolt or nail in your tire somewhere

Yep

I had the same freaking problem. I was coming out of 3rd downshifting into second and slowing to make a right turn. When I let the clutch out it was like CLINK CLINK CLINK and it was speed dependent for sure. I pulled over and cried Turn the engine of, waited for a second put it in first and a loud clink, the same sound as when you put it in reverse and the rear diff make that clink noise but much louder. Never had that prob again and hope I never do.

P.S. And it was no low tire pressure or a nail in the tire. You could feel it throught the whole car.

There could be something wrong with one of the differentials. A guy I know was having the same kind of problem with his S2000 and it turned out to be the diff going bad. Just a thought.

If you think it can make it to your mechanic then go for it. Just drive it gently. But if it sounds real bad, I'd just have it towed. I'm sure it will work out alright. Good luck man!

thanks fred, one more thing. is the differential covered by the warranty if you've had an after market clutch installed?

It really just depends on your dealer. If they want to give you crap about having an aftermarket clutch, then they probably will. If they do, just argue like crazy saying how the Mitsubishi clutch is a peice of junk. It may work. If not, then you're probably gonna have to cover the costs. Good luck!

problem fixed! It was just some heat shield rubbing against the driveshaft.
