Monster Sport Intercooler Pipes
Monster Sport Intercooler Pipes
Hi Guys,
I got a good deal on some of the Monster Sport intercooler pipes and I am working on the install now. I know these require a smaller battery but I thought other than that they are a pretty straightforward install. The LICP fits great with the new J-pipe but the UICP lower piece has a bracket that is running into all sorts of stuff under the driver side headlight. If anybody has any experience with these pipes or knows someone who has run these I could use some help. I don't want to have to cut the bracket off but I am getting close to going down that road
.
Thanks

Just a thought.
The stuff it's hitting isn't the ACD stuff is it?
As Monster Sport being Japanese will have designed this around the Japanese evo which has all the ACD at the back of the car so that space would have been free.

Yogi B, yes it is the ACD bracket. I thought maybe it could have fit in there but after several tries, it was clear that both the bracket and piping would not line up.
I had no idea that the ACD was in the back of the car on JDM vehicles. Looks like I needed to research all of the differences between the USDM and JDM vehicles a little better.
Sounds like my options now are the following:
1) Cut the bracket on Monster Sport lower pipe (not a fan of hacking things up)
2) Sell the upper pipes to someone without an ACD and go OEM with new silicone couplers
3) Relocate the ACD (I think others have done this but I have not done the research)
4) Assemble a hybrid UICP: OEM Lower Pipe --> Angled Silicone Coupler --> Monster Sport Upper Pipe
Opinions on these options?
Thx

On the ones I installed we ran a jdm battery and tray to clear at the top and cut the bracket off that interferes with the acd pump. It's not noticeable when installed and doesn't affect anything. The pipes once clamped down are fairly rigid. I wasn't a fan of cutting it either. But it's the way it is. Also we ran the monster sport cf airbox. So it's hard to say if it would fit with the stock airbox as it was changed at the same time.
For the jdm battery you need the battery, the hold down, a positive clamp, and a negative cable. The posts are smaller. The negative cable comes with the alternator charging wire harness. Wasn't a cheap conversion. Around $500 at the time iirc. I knew what I needed as a friend had a jdm Evo 7 stores away in his garage. So I went over and made a list of what I needed. My friend is from Japan, lives here and imports shiny expensive jdm parts for a living. So he just ordered everything up from mitsu in Japan and had it tossed in his next container. Apparently shopping the battery is a no no because of the acid. But no one noticed and it came in. So that could be a difficult proposition. But it's doable. Looked great when it was done.
