Evo 8 and 9 cams

I always thought both the intake and exhaust camshafts were interchangeable between the Evo viii and Evo ix. What is the difference between the two?

...i would say like putting vtec cams on a non vtec honda or the other way around.

Exhaust camshaft can be interchanged but not the intake cam.
