Exhaust Clinking
Exhaust Clinking
Hey guys, the other day I was standing behind my car while it was idleing and I began to hear a metallic sounding clink noise from the exhaust. I've been under the car while it was running and can't find where the heck it's coming from. I've shaken every part of the exhaust, banged on every heat shield and held onto it to see if that would stop it. Nothing makes it go away. What do you guys think it could be? There's no specific pattern to the sound. Any help would be great!
usually the oil pan, one of the chassis braces, the t-case, a heat shield, fuel tank, or drive line. could be one of the mounts if the bolt is loose. could be one of the bolts being loose and jangling.
could be substrate in the cat?
if none of those, i can't imagine it being the exhaust. the biggest clue is the sound. you can tell what type of metal is hitting (heavy, dull thud vs light "ting") and go from there.
