Driveshafts

right so xmas is coming up and I owe myself a pressie

so I decided to I ought to get me a new propshaft...started researching and as usual the internet throws a lot of stuff back to you and one gets confused.

currently I have the stock one.

What I see is available....

carbon 2pc and 1pc

carbon 2pc...dss take 3 weeks to do one, and I read somewhere here that its heavier then an aluminum one.

carbon 1pc...read all the thread by evodan....seems like a good idea...however clearance does worry me.

so this leaves us with a 2pc light one.....what is available out there?

What would you choose?

please feel free to discuss...maybe I'm getting my facts wrong...

help me make my xmas shoppin

thanks

chassis

The PST one piece is the lightest you will find. I have had it to 165.00 and its super smooth. The only down side is you need to make some room for it threw the tunnel and it will require stiffer engine mounts then OEM. Avid or TS is perfect.

Hi evo dan I did read you're thread very very closely, howver my car is not dragged, but tarmac rallied

I have torque solutions engine mounts and a rear Chromalloy subframe....

my worry is that with the vibration of jumps etc...the one piece will touch since there is 0.40 clearance only

I'll throw a tidbit in since you mentioned carbon vs aluminum. This is a hearsay statement...so I heard someone say that carbon fiber DS will hold their shape better. Something to the effect of...once aluminum bends or is stressed enough to change shape, it will stay in that distorted shape, while carbon fiber will be more resistant to permanent shape changes, having more of an ability to rebound to its original molded shape.

I'm sure an argument could be made as to whether or not the DS will be under enough stress to distort the shape of the aluminum in the first place. I've only skimmed the surface of info on lighter-than-oem driveshafts so I won't spout any more nonsense. For the above reason (assuming it holds some truth) I would go with a 2pc carbon. I think the overall benefit of weight reduction between the oem and any lightweight unit will far outweigh any small differences in weight between various options. 2pc vs 1pc is an entirely different debate. Good luck

hahaha thanks for your input...I really would want somebody to go in depth cause all available info seams to be very limited...they're all in the same price bracket +/-.... yet application info is scarce

apart from DSS, is there any other manufacturer?

I have been told that there was a company CTG in the uk...they apparently closed down...

the other question is has anybody ever auto x or rallied there 1piece shaft before?

Thanks

I have not jumped my car so I can't comment on that. But if the engine and rear have stiffer mounts I don't see why it would be an issue. I run a solid from cross member as well. So nothing moves on my car. Maybe consider one of them as well
